How old is too old for a doll?

As in, a baby doll rather than a Barbie? I don't have daughters but was quite surprised to hear a colleague remark that she wouldn't be buying her DD a doll, although her DD had asked for one, because "she's six". I'm sure I still played with dolls at that age?

(Obviously no disrespect meant to colleague - and if she'd said something like "DD wants a baby doll but she's got four already and hardly plays with them", I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. But an age restriction seemed a bit odd.)

Whenever the child loses interest in playing with dolls.

I’d be happy to buy mine dolls if that’s what they wanted.

6 year old have only got started! If they like dolls that could actively be playing with them until they are about 12. Collecting them to who knows?!

My dd is 12 and this year she sewed herself a doll. She has a bunch of soft toys on her bed and regularly plays with Lego. Children who play with dolls are nourishing their imagination. I don't know why you'd set an arbitrary age limit

When I worked in a primary school the children were allowed to take in a toy on the last day of term. The girls in year 2/3/4/5 bring baby dolls in, but in year 6 it was hand held Computers and pens/stationary - not a doll to be seen. So I would say 10/11 ish is the age that most little girls grow out of it.

Id say age 8 /9 ish they may grow out of them at age 6 they are still so little so that age group would still play with dolls.

i think reborn dolls are for all ages so older girls would happy play with that type for a long time.

My DD lost interest in baby dolls around 6ish, she likes Our Generation type dolls a bit but prefers animals with big eyes now 😂 she's 8.

Well I'm 31 and I still love dolls, I don't play with them but I collect, so I say they're for any age😁

Kids are all different. DD and DS both played with a baby doll when they were toddlers, had definately grown out of them by age 3 or 4. No interest whatsoever in dolls/Barbies past 5 years. But plenty of DDs friends (boys and girls) still love playing babies at age 7/8. I'm guessing those kids are more maternal/paternal and maybe I won't get to be a grandma?? Hmm
