First time doing this, what do you put in yours?

OP posts:
cloudtree · 11/12/2018 12:14

We've done it for 11 years now. Pyjamas/onesie, hot chocolate, sweet treat of some kind, bath bomb, same DVD (Polar Express which goes in each year and then mysteriously disappears).

Chinks123 · 11/12/2018 12:16

Hot chocolate, a Christmassy dvd and book, new PJ’s, and snacks. Sometimes a little toy or teddy. Dd also finds out whether she’s on the nice list with her “nice certificate” being in her box every Christmas Eve. She’s always so excited to find out she’ll definitely be getting toys in the morning Grin

SuzieBishop · 11/12/2018 12:51

The Santa key so he can get into your house and the plate to put his snack, drink and rudolph's carrot on. And the reindeer food to sprinkle outside!

StylishMummy · 11/12/2018 12:59

Santa plate
PJs
DVD
Hot choc with marshmallows
Decorated gingerbread man (Greggs)

BatPie · 11/12/2018 13:07

I do them for mine and they're now 20 and 12. This year it's a Christmassy tote bag each.. DD's is a gingerbread man design and DS has a reindeer on his

I've packed them with a fleece blanket each ( cartoon dogs on DS' and cats on DDs), and I'll add chocolate and a DVD for DS

I don't go mad with them because I appear to have gone mad with gifts on Christmas Day Hmm

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 11/12/2018 13:17

We always have new pjs for us all, hot chocolate, marshmallows, bath bombs, sweets and activity books in ours.

@Chinks123 love the nice certificate idea. Do you make it or buy it from somewhere?

Angelinthenight · 11/12/2018 14:05

Xmas minnie & mickey from disney store
Colouring books & activity books
Crayola 100 crayons
A tub for pens etc
Xmas socks
Jumanji board game
Jurrasic world fallen kingdom dvd
Small toy each
Mine are mostly shared gifts as have 3 younger ones

Chinks123 · 11/12/2018 14:21

@BeauticianNotMagician81 It’s so cute when she opens it, I always video her surprised reaction! And I just buy a personalised “nice list” certificate off eBay, I’ve gone for a vintage looking one this year Smile

Lovemusic33 · 11/12/2018 14:51

Pj's
Greatest showman DVD
Popcorn
Naked marshmallow toasting set

That's for all 3 of us to share (new pjs each), dds are 12 and 14.

Not sure why people go overboard with toys etc.., kind of makes Christmas day less special?

We used to do book a to read before bed but they never got read so have ditched that idea.

Kissmyaxe · 11/12/2018 14:55

New Christmas pjs
Christmas bath bomb from Lush
Nice list certificate
Chocolate gold coins/Christmas candy
Token toy/game

Christmas Eve box
MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 11/12/2018 15:04

DD(5) always has

-Pyjamas (not necessarily Christmas ones)
-Slippers/slipper socks
-A DVD that we can all watch together

  • A book for bedtime (it's 'Mog's Christmas' this year)
  • A Beenie Boo (she collects them)

Getting her new PJ's on, snuggling down to watch a film together and then reading the new book as her bedtime story really helps to settle her down when she might otherwise be too hyped up and excited to sleep.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/12/2018 15:09

I am amazed that so many people still seem to have DVD players!

TheKnackeredChef · 11/12/2018 15:10

Plate and mug for Santa's snacks
Magic key to hang on door
Reindeer food
Night Before Christmas book to read before bed
Elf DVD
New jammies
Box of Quality Street
Baby Jesus to put in the nativity set

None of them believe any more but the scorn which met my suggestion that perhaps they're a bit old for all this now soon put me in my place. 🙄

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 11/12/2018 15:17

Kiss that certificate is lovely...can I ask where it's from and £? Love the personalised box too!

I wish I was getting a Christmas Eve box Smile

Kissmyaxe · 11/12/2018 16:02

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplands - not on the high street- it’s so pretty!

DeadButDelicious · 11/12/2018 16:31

I put in;

New PJ's
A little toy
Christmas DVD's
Christmas book
Letter from Santa
Nice list certificate
Santa's key
A sweet treat.

We also have a special plate for Santa's treats.

2gorgeousboys · 11/12/2018 16:38

I've done one for the boys for 18 or 19 years. Ours has;
New pyjamas for everyone,
Hot chocolate and mini marshmallows
Book when they were little and now a Christmas DVD (usually reused)
Homemade reindeer food
Santa plate and mug (the same ones every year)

No toys etc as they get enough of those on Christmas Day.

G00FY · 11/12/2018 17:32

My DD 10, has had one every year, she loves it! This year she has;
New pj’s
Christmas bed socks
Hot choc
New pinny
Christmas bun cases (to bake for Father Christmas)
When she was younger I’d include an add an egg baking kit
A Christmas glass (previous years have been a mug, but we now have “too many” Christmas mugs apparently!)
Popcorn
Chocolatey treat

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 11/12/2018 20:24

Thanks Kiss I think I'm going to get one for DDs C Eve parcel'

Lazybonita · 12/12/2018 11:19

We always have a pair of pj’s, a book and a cuddly toy. This year I am adding a lush bath bomb. We also have a new dvd but they will get that earlier in the day so we can watch it in the afternoon.

GlomOfNit · 12/12/2018 23:14

I don't really get the overfilled box thing - isn't that what Christmas Day is for? DVDs - there is ALWAYS something on worth watching for children on Christmas Eve! We normally go to a 4pm crib service (because DS1 is normally in it...) and then have a big family meal, so for us there isn't really the time to sit and watch a Christmas Eve film.

I don't do a box as such - the Elf takes his leave on the 24th and brings new Christmas PJs for the DS and maybe socks for the adults. The box is usually in the front porch (an old Amazon box... Grin ) when we get back from the crib service.

I then encourage the little buggers to get to bed asap! Grin

BlueOooChristmas · 13/12/2018 06:51

I think it's just a case of different strokes @GlomOfNit. We don't go out at all on Christmas Eve as a rule the only exception is if DH has to work, then he'll be home at lunch. Thankfully he's not working this year.
I couldn't tell you what is on TV at any time of the year as we don't really watch it. We have a small pile of Christmas kids films that come down each year with the decorations, 2 more will be added from the kids boxes this year. Maybe it's just my kids but they love DVDs, I think it's something to do with the boxes and being able to go and physically choose them by themselves.
We also don't eat any large meals on Christmas Eve, we save all that for Christmas day.

For the OP this is our 3rd year doing boxes and we include PJs, a new bath robe, mug, hot choc, a DVD, a book, a TY Christmas plush and some chocolates. We have found any more than that and things get forgotten. We basically provide everything needed to have a cuddly, snuggly day. I always prefer Christmas Eve to the main event as I have less to do! Smile

lostlalaloopsy · 13/12/2018 07:46

Our Christmas Eve box will have

New pjs - the only time I really splurge on matching pjs
Bubble bath
New toothbrush
Chocolate orange
New book

Lovemusic33 · 13/12/2018 08:01

Glom we don’t go to crib service and we don’t have people over (our house is too small), we visit family during the day. We don’t watch much tv and Christmas Eve viewings are usually the snowman which has been done to death so we buy a DVD (we don’t have sky or Netflix).

My dc’s are just getting new pj’s, dvd and popcorn, I don’t see the need for a overflowing box either but each to their own.

SweetPeaPods · 13/12/2018 13:54

Not much in ours.
Magic Santa key
Christmas book and dvd
Hot choc and marshmallows
Popcorn
