Talk to me about dolls...

DD(4) has asked for a doll for Christmas and I am completely lost. She says she wants a doll that 'walks and talks and closes it's eyes when it goes to sleep' as referenced in Peppa Pig.

She has a couple of dolls already- an ancient hand-me-down Baby Annabell which has never had working electronics, and a couple of cheap dolls that cry/ say mama. All the dolls she has have soft bodies so they don't sit independently. She likes playing with my old doll which is hard bodied so can sit up (but she doesn't walk or talk etc)
Any recommendations for a nice doll? I would prefer hard bodied but they don't seem to be interactive? It seems that dolls either walk OR talk, not both- is there such a thing as a walking, talking doll? Do the walking dolls actually walk or are they a complete pain? I am not keen on the look of the Luvabella type dolls, but open to persuasion if the consensus is they are great........ any help greatly appreciated. I am going around in circles here!

By walking and talking could she mean an American girl style doll rather than a baby doll or an actual doll that walks and talks?

There's one that's always advertised on Tiny Pop that you teach to wall but I can't remember what it's called... that's probably not remotely helpful.

I think she means a doll that actually walks and talks but that is a good point knittedjest I wonder if she means walking and talking in the same way her Barbies do? I will grill her further.

A doll you teach to walk Spam88 ? Off to google

We've gone for an our generation doll - v similar to American doll. No walking or talking but very realistic so easy to play with iyswim. Eyes close when lying down too!

I would go for an Our Generation doll. They aren’t too expensive and you can buy countless clothes and accessories for them. They don’t ‘do’ anything, but I know a couple of 4 year old girls who absolutely love them. Our baby Annabel has been sitting at home largely untouched for the past year.

I have boys, but I seem to remember an advert for cry babies. I’m sure they have a new version that can walk and talk.
Sorry, I haven’t clicked on any of the links to see if this is what anyone has posted.

I just saw that review too RatRolyPoly ! And a past mumsnet thread on google asking for the same. Obviously a popular Peppa Pig episode (perhaps I should watch it!)
I can see I need to grill her more. The problem is there are 2 suspicious older brothers hanging around wondering why I am so interested in in nailing down the specifics of any present and reassuring me that Santa will 'just know'. The ancient baby annabell she has is really heavy which makes it difficult to play with , but the'old clothes and accessories will fit the Annabell learns to walk so that is a contender. Off to look at Our Generation dolls too. Thank you

My four year old is getting an Our Generation doll and several relatives are buying outfits. My sister is buying a cute camping set with a tent and sleeping bag!

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 10/12/2018 20:29

Is it Baby Wow wow she's seen? It's horrendous in real life, I refused to buy them for my DDs last year.

We have Baby Borns and they are quite cute. They don't talk though or walk, so I guess I'm not being very helpful, haha. Sorry!

I discovered the horror of Baby Wow today. Absolutely hideous, and she doesn't even look like she is walking.
She is insistent that she wants a doll that actually walks and talks rather than one she pretends with. I showed her the OG dolls but she was a bit non-plussed. I think the Baby Annabell learns to walk is the front runner at the moment but still not right.
