I am really struggling with what to get for DS. He's in reception and is 5 in March, I don't want to get him paw patrol stuff as he'll grow out of it pretty quickly and he has lots of Lego and playmobil. I always find inspiration in threads where other people say what they're getting so I'm on here feeling hopeful .....!

Of ffs. What are you getting .... the title should read WHAT are you getting!

I think at that age DS's favourite thing was a set of Hexbug Nanos. DH is eyeing up the Gravitrax now (DS too old to be interested...)

Simple chapter books you can read together are great for this age too. And a remote control car, especially one which can do tricks.

Character bedding, especially something like Ninjago?

BertieBotts · 09/12/2018 15:19

Oh, and it's a great age for family board games to start.

BertieBotts · 09/12/2018 15:19

Uno got a lot of play that year.

Isadora2007 · 09/12/2018 15:20

Anki overdrive racing track is half price on amazon just now. It’s pretty cool!

Missm00 · 09/12/2018 15:22

Wooden train track, well exciting (expensive) pieces, such as engine sheds, tunnels, cranes etc.

Dirtygirtyisthirty · 09/12/2018 15:23

Ours is getting some magnetic tiles, K'nex, and a relative is buying him a transformer toy

marmaladecats · 09/12/2018 15:26

My MIL has got my 4 yr old a remote control car. We don’t have any playmobil so I’ve just ordered a fire station set, he’s also getting a cheapie CD player from us so he can listen to music in his bedroom. That’s about it, I thought of a domino rally set as he likes that sort of thing but don’t want to get him too much as he’s not a massive player with toys and not at all into branded/tv stuff, he’s basically not v sophisticated compared to his peers. From family he’s getting music cds, a superhero costume and a BINGO game.

Home bargains yesterday, spent £50 and got a load of stuff.
Some stocking fillers and chocolates also.
My 5 year old will be happy.

LastOneDancing · 09/12/2018 15:31

A Polar Express (because we just haven't got enough trains Hmm )
Giant pass the pigs.
Funnybones book.
Spray soap (vile but he loves it).
A rugby shirt.

He's played Guess Who and Kerplunk a lot this year. He'd also be happy with a roll of sellotape & coloured paper to waste. Wellies? I like the duvet cover idea too.

elQuintoConyo · 09/12/2018 15:33

Walky talkys (we got a great deal on proper Motorola ones on black friday...sorry! )

Orchard games - we have Pigs in Pants which is a big hit, i have heard good things about others in their range.

Marble run (Lidl do fabulous wooden ones).

On dvd: Toy Story, Minions trilogy, Polar Express..

Oh and he also got a small Playmobil police station that clises up and locks, very portable. You can get knights ones, all sorts, great for taking to GPs house.

DS is now 7yo and still plays with all of them.

IncomingCannonFire · 09/12/2018 15:42

This year he's getting gravitrax marble run, lego, Disney car playset.
He loves playing easy games now like uno.
His favorite last year was a wooden domino rally.
He also likes hot wheels tracks but I find them annoying cos they keep falling apart.

madmum5811 · 09/12/2018 15:46

A floor mat piano that you dance on to make music, he does love making music.

danni0509 · 09/12/2018 15:50

ds 5 next month.

Aeroplanes like the branded ones, Emirates, British airways, TUI, Virgin etc, he's plane mad, they are so cool like the small version of the real thing. He has a few already so added the rest to his collection.

A plane mat to go with the above, it has runways on and air traffic control etc, he's gunna love this.

Today in Tesco picked up a car garage type thing with car ramps and 10 cars included, was £50 but half price so £25 he enjoys playing with stuff like that and for half price I couldn't resist.

Hot wheels cars.

Morrison's and Sainsbury's toy vans.

Few learning bits off Amazon, mainly Oxford games, etc.

Play doh with the pizza cutters and tool that makes it come out like spaghetti,

sweets, chocolate coins etc, few pairs pyjamas, bed socks, some books, colouring books and crayons, couple of puzzles, some clothes, I also want to get him some walkie talkies but that's mainly so I can tell him to get back into bed without shouting it up Grin his birthdays 3 weeks after Xmas so may leave the walkie talkies till then.

Struggled this year to know what to buy. he's already got iPad, scooter, bike etc.
