Any suggestions for this years gadget. It's for my dad. He has smart phone, google home, drone, those 3D visual game thing, security cameras. You get the idea.. I'm so not into gadgets so have no idea what is good. Budget around 100.

Ring doorbell? But £150 I think

Some light bulbs to go with his Google home?

TheSpottedZebra · 07/12/2018 16:12

Or plugs to go with Google home. Although I much prefer the cheaper, remote control ones that are not 'smart'. But excellent for Xmas lights for me, and for all sorts for my mum who has trouble bending down to turn off plugs.

Does he have a smart stick for TV?

Spotify subscription?

A Tile key finder thing?

confuddeledconfuddel · 07/12/2018 16:16

He has those light controls that he works through an app on his phone. He has hearing problems so has a doorbell which flashes and is really loud but I was wondering about that video one I seen advertised recently on tv. If I have to push a little above 100 I'm not so bothered

Ooh, the tile mate might solve a present issue for me too!

Re the doorbell, I'd maybe try to check out the sound quality on one before you go there. My friend has one, and I don't think that the sound is that great, although that could be due to interfering road noise.

Harmony home hub with a remote?

Odd one here, was talking to my adult computery son earlier, said he was getting Nixie tubes. Me, what's Nixie tube, modern equivalent of old radio valve, designed to show glowing red digits with sexy background deep blue glow. Kits on tinternet to make digital clocks, or display outside temp, less than 100 quid, bit of soldering and it sounds like dad might like that. Im an old git and would love one ( not that I'm suggesting he's an old git!) Cute toys honestly.

elephantoverthehill · 07/12/2018 19:11

Tony2 I have an adult engineeringy son and I think one of these Nixie kits might just be thing. Thanks.

confuddeledconfuddel · 07/12/2018 19:14

@Tony2 they sound amazing. I think I have found one that doesn't need soldering as dad has a difib in place and can't solder

I have ordered one for my husband as well
