Ideas for a 'Whole Family' Gift

Theonlyoneiknow · 07/12/2018 08:50

Hi Peeps! Am looking for suggestions/ideas please for a gift for a whole family - 2 adults, 2 primary school aged DC. Something like National Trust maybe or cinema vouchers? Although we don't really have many NT properties near us.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Zoo
Merlin pass/local theme park
Local kids adventure farm

IggyAce · 07/12/2018 08:53

English heritage or perhaps an annual pass to a local farm.

Last year we got an indoor skydiving and this year I'm going for one of those escape room things. Have a look round at what unusual experiences there are near you.

We do have NT membership as well, we seem out places when we travel anywhere. Plus they are good for walks and other environmental things to - not just stately homes.

We are buying a family day pass (well for some reason it's separate gift vouchers i.e. entry for one adult x 2, entry for one child x 2) for Edinburgh Zoo, just under £50 and under 3s (it's a family of 5) go free. We will get some selection boxes too so they've something bigger to open.

We are in Aberdeen which unfortunately doesn't have a vast array of activities to choose from!

Thanks for the suggestions I will look a bit further into what is within an hour radius of us

Don’t buy an activity. Often they are time limited, can only be used midweek, end up costing the recipient in petrol, food, parking etc

An hour each way could cost them a fortune to acesss

Just send an amazon voucher if you don’t want a physical gift

Taffeta · 07/12/2018 09:50

It’s my favourite gift to buy!

One year I bought a mad side table - an animal we named Graham and we all use

This year with secondary age DC I’ve bought a book of the periodic table to test each other on each week, with prizes Grin

And a very very nice box of Paul A Young chocolates

Pick something that captures the mood of the family now, something that you will all use or get pleasure from

Taffeta · 07/12/2018 09:51

Oh I’ve just realised it’s not your family Blush

Lobsterquadrille2 · 07/12/2018 09:53

How well do you know them? I am so anti zoos that I delete any friends on Facebook who post photographs of them - just a personal thing. How about a hamper including items suited to each member of the family?

Beamur · 07/12/2018 09:54

A game?
Cinema tickets.
Voucher for photoshoot.

BikeRunSki · 07/12/2018 09:56

Cinema pass

SinisterBumFacedCat · 07/12/2018 09:57

I think a decent board game or maybe air hockey plus chocolates

Fairenuff · 07/12/2018 10:00

Board games

Or card games like Exploding Kittens (depending on how old the children are)

DaffyTaffy · 07/12/2018 10:02

A set of 4 walkie talkies......hours of fun!

Kitty2019 · 07/12/2018 10:03

ALEXA for their house.

Falli · 07/12/2018 10:11

Its fairly budget but we have bought some groupons for treasure trails.

Sounds odd but either you pick the trail, or give them a voucher and they can pick one. Our local area has a treasure trail, murder mystery one and a pirate themed one. Oh and one you can drive.

We got bought one and it was great fun, we subsequently bought one for a different are that we went on holiday too as it was a good way of exploring the major landmarks etc

Longleggedlovely · 07/12/2018 11:15

The science centre is good in Aberdeen or the trampoline park at either Aberdeen or Inverurie have been a hit with my family.

Longleggedlovely · 07/12/2018 11:16

Or a bit further afield Landmark at Carrbridge

NellieBee · 08/12/2018 23:35

Cineworld annual passes for us.

MergeDragons · 08/12/2018 23:38

What about doing a day trip to Dundee on the train - go to the new V+A and the discovery, you could go to the Olympus swimming pool too.

Heratnumber7 · 08/12/2018 23:43

Cirque du Soleil tickets. They are bloody fantastic. Usually on in London in the New Year.

SquishySquirmy · 08/12/2018 23:49

There are quite a few NT properties near Aberdeen/in Aberdeenshire - most of the castles/stately homes are. I think Scottish NT membership is cheaper too. I second a PP's suggestion of the Science Cente - that's very god if the kids would be into that sort of thing, or trampolining.

Or a Dolphin watching "cruise" round the harbour?

JakeBallardswife · 09/12/2018 00:00

We’re doing this fir 2 x families and I’ve bought a selection of board games

Ellapaella · 09/12/2018 08:57

Someone lovely has just bought us theatre ticket vouchers - enough for the whole family to go and see a show. I have to say it's one of the best gifts I've ever had, we are over the moon with it so I'd say it's definitely a winner.

Taffeta · 09/12/2018 11:01

How much does OP have to spend?

You’d need a bloody mortgage to buy 4 Cirque du Soleil tickets!!
