Can anyone recommend a good guide to Greek mythology for a 9 year old Percy Jackson fan?

D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths is great, my DD loved it at that age.

Marcia Williams books are a lot of fun and good introductions.
I loved Rouse's Gods, Heroes and Men. I got the Puffin Classics for ds but its rather ponderous and patronising and neither of us liked it.

Stephen Fry's retellings? Think it's called Mythos

DS loves this one - think I got it when he was that age -

I have a ten year old with a similar fascination. Smile I've just bought him Mythos and might get the Heroes one too - I scanned for swears as he's SUCH a prude, couldn't see anything obvious, but obviously the subject matter itself is a bit racy if presented for adults. But I thought Fry's prose style was engaging and fun.

We have the American D'Aulaire's one, which feels a bit dated in style, and an old Usborne one he's now far too old for. Did Roger Llancelyn Green do one on Greek myths? He must have. I remember enjoying his Egyptian mythology one at that age.

Stephen Fry’s books are swear-free and he tends to dance around the saucy bits quite delicately. There is the odd reference to castration though. The audio versions are absolutely wonderful.

9 is a bit of an awkward age because some the children’s versions will be too young and some of the adult books are rather dry. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007C4G0RO/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21 - this one might be ok if you don’t want to go for Frys version (Id get his Mythos and Heroes though..)

The Stephen Fry books are brilliant, really enjoyable.

It’s a very awkward age alright!

I'm reading Stephen Fry at the moment because I need a refresher as going to Athens and I'm enjoying it.

Who Let the Gods Out is brilliant.

10 year old DS (y5) loves Aticus the Storyteller’s 100 Greek Myths

I read Leon Garfield’s The God Beneath the Sea at about that age, and it really resonated with me.
