Battery powered Thomas the Tank Engine and Wooden Railway question

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help me out here. We have a lot of wooden railway track which is a mix of Brio, Ikea and Hape. My DDad would like to get DS a battery powered Thomas the Tank Engine train. Does anyone know if there is a version that is compatible with the Brio etc track? Amazon reviews aren't particularly helpful, some people say yes, others say no and some say they are very sorry but they don't know Hmm

Thanks!

We have one but we've had it 14 years, sorry.
I remember it cost £20 which I was horrified about at the time but it's still going strong now.

none of that was actually helpful was it?

Do you mean like the trackmaster engines? If so, DS1 has many, many of them and runs them both on the trackmaster track and brio track he has.

Thomas was made for brio, James is a track master one.

Thomas is also metal, not plastic.

We definitely have a motorised Percy that fits on our brio, so they must exist!

Mummylife2018 · 05/12/2018 20:45

Yes! You can get them on Thomas2u.co.uk or search for 'Battery Powered Wooden Thomas Engines'

Trackmaster are not compatible

I think this might be what you're after?

Thank you! But see, even on this thread, some pp are saying Trackmaster ones are compatible and others are saying they aren't! I'm just getting confused! Grin

I saw some reviews that said the 'old' and ' new' versions of the Trackmaster were different (different coloured tracks??) and the wheels didn't fit properly. And also some that said that the trains worked on wooden straights, but wouldn't go around corners.

wisest is your Brio Thomas motorised?

Thank you for those links. They certainly aren't cheap, are they?!

I don't mind the trains being metal.

We have the one @zucchinieggplant linked to and although it fits the Brio track it's forever coming off the track as it doesn't corner well. So I wouldn't necessarily recommend. It also chews through batteries.

WisestIsShe · 05/12/2018 21:22

Yes Cheshire he's a proper engine. The track master one is ok too but isn't powerful enough to climb the hill without help and a v tight squeeze in the level crossing.

WisestIsShe · 05/12/2018 21:28

How about this one? Here
Currently out of stock though.

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 06/12/2018 00:22

We have the new track master and is definitely doesn’t work on the wooden track (in fact it’s utterly shit and barely works on its own track!)

The old track master may well work but you can’t buy it from shops any more and can only really get it second hand
