10 yo DD would like an iPod for Christmas. I have no idea whatsoever what they do.......

Do I need to buy the latest one? And what does 32GB mean?

Help!

She'll be getting my old iphone next August for her birthday......is it worth getting the iPod now?

Our DS has an iPod and loves it.
It is definitely good practise to get them used to Apple.
32gb is just storage, I would go for that above a smaller gb as it’ll hold more photos/games.
If you google difference between gen 5 and gen 6 (think 6 is the latest) it’ll highlight the main differences and you can decide from there.
My ds has had his for 2years and it was definitely worth the money for him

Sorry as to what they do.....pretty much everything an iPhone does except for make calls and send messages (although they can do FaceTime and iMessage to other Apple users)
They can’t download WhatsApp for it.
Ds just uses his for games and we have a family subscription to Apple Music

Sorry I’m assuming you mean an iPod touch and not just the little iPod shuffles.
We got ours refurbished and it’s always been fine if the cost is putting you off (ours is from CEX but game might have some too)

If she is getting an old iPhone next year there is no point getting an iPod now. I gave my DD my d phone when she asked for an iPod touch to save £££ as the phone can do more. She has a PAYG phone and I put WhatsApp on it mostly so I can message her!

There's no point getting an iPod Touch if she's getting an iPhone 8 months later.
