Christmas outings in London

What are the main places to visit in London around Christmas apart from winter wonderland? I’ve looked online, and there are various different markets and attractions. However, there’s so much to choose from, which do you recommend?

I’ve heard about Covent Garden, Southbank market, carnaby street etc. Are these worth visiting?

Many thanks :)

What about the big department stores? We go to Fortnum’s ice cream palour everybyear and get a cupcake each from the Harrod’s food hall.
I can not afford anything in either but enjoy seeing the decorations and I do enjoy a luxury food hall.

Ooh that sounds like my kind of thing, I love food haha. I’ve never been to Fortnums, might give it a try! Smile

Covent Garden, Carnaby St and Seven Dials all have lovely Christmas lights worth seeing.

Kew Gardens always has a good Christmas display.

A Christmas lights bus tour is lovely.
I found the Southbank xmas market disappointing last year.
Selfridges and Harrods are lovely for a look around.
Ice skating?
Hampton Court?

I went to Kew Gardens last year. But it’s all fully booked this year before Christmas.

Never heard of light bus tour sounds interesting

Covent Garden & carnaby street are 10 minutes walk from each other, you can easily do both of those & Fortnum & Mason in a day. Liberty has a nice xmas department

There’s a little xmas market in Leicester Square, it’s got the same stuff as the Southbank and can be done on the way to other places

Get on the number 73 bus or any bus going through central London shopping streets. Don't fork out ££ for tourist bus tours which take exactly the same route as the ordinary buses. We buy snacks, sit on the top deck and go down Oxford st on the no 73. Sometimes we get off at Oxford circus, wander down Regent st to see Liberty's department store & then take a bus to St. Paul's.

Go to fortnums and carry a gold shopping basket around (to ram people out of your way!)

The lights bus tour I use is usually half price on Wowcher, it does cost more than a regular bus fare of course but it doesn't stop at every bus stop and the bus is decorated with fairy lights, it plays xmas songs and the driver is dressed up as Santa and the kids get a small packet of sweets and adults a mince pie and cup of mulled wine. It also takes you around certain streets you may not go down and gives you some commentary. It just makes it a little more special than a normal bus
