AIBU: Advent calendars are not selection boxes

We are delivered advent calendars from a supplier at work, big fancy ones. We have 2 to share between 7 of us, and we tend to take it in turns. Today, we opened 1-4 of both calendars and put them on the side to share out (some are wrapped). A couple of us chose a chocolate and the rest are left on the side, an email was sent to the lady at the far end who may not have heard us say we have opened the windows and there are chocolates on the side of she would like one.
5 minutes later, said colleague comes and opens a different window on each calendar as these are bigger windows and have fancier chocolates and goes back to her desk.
Am I being unreasonable to be shocked and appalled? Advent calendars are strictly to be opened in order and are not a selection box!! Christmas is ruined, we are all too shocked to say anything!

Pooh, awkward! Did she misunderstand how you were doing it?

Christmassyelf · 04/12/2018 12:19

Email was very clear, and she opened the wrong date!? That is the fundamental purpose of the advent calendar...

I think she sounds great. Zero fucks given 😎 serves you all right for leaving her out of the fun.

Christmassyelf · 04/12/2018 12:22

We didn't leave her out, we offered for her to come and collect a chocolate from the advent calendars we all share. A couple of us opened the windows, not all 7!

Meh.

froomeonthebroom · 04/12/2018 12:26

Have you taken a Daily Fail sad face photo next to the calendar?

SleepingStandingUp · 04/12/2018 12:28

Get her sacked and flogged. She's a wrong un

ThisIsWhatItSoundsLike · 04/12/2018 12:30

Push her head down toilet? Burn her desk? Teach her a lesson

Merrychristmasyoufilthyanimals · 04/12/2018 12:30

I hope her p45 is in the post

newmumwithquestions · 04/12/2018 12:31

I think it’s very strange and wrong.

However I also think it’s very strange that you opened 8 windows and left the chocolates on the side. The point is you open a window, get a chocolate. 8 windows so more than enough for everyone to have one. Why did you open your colleagues window?

Christmassyelf · 04/12/2018 12:33

We opened 1-4 as it's the 4th today and we hadn't opened any and as the chocolates were wrapped we wanted to offer them out to everyone!

newmumwithquestions · 04/12/2018 12:34

So on reflection you left her out the fun and she’s doing it to make a point.

Take the chocolates you already took out. Put two in the spaces from the ones she opened. Close it again. Job done.

What... don’t want a chocolate that someone has already handled from an already opened window??? I think that’s her point.

PositivelyPERF · 04/12/2018 12:34

So you all got your pick of the chocolates and she got the ones you didn’t want? Good for her. 😁

Christmassyelf · 04/12/2018 12:35

No, out of the 8 chocolates up for grabs there were still 6 to choose from, all fancy chocs. She just opened the biggest windows!

Its like the greedy oink thread a while back where those who contribute the least food, eat the most

newmumwithquestions · 04/12/2018 13:43

You still haven’t answered.
8 windows to open. Why did you and 1 other colleague open all 8?

WeeDangerousSpike · 04/12/2018 13:52

I really don't understand why you didn't just open a window each. Maybe even leave one for tomorrow as there's only 7 of you.

You've treated it as a selection box too by hoiking out all 8 and picking the one you fancy.

Let people open their own windows - that's the fun!

Christmassyelf · 04/12/2018 13:54

Because it is the 4th and we only received the calendars today so we opened them so everyone could have them. It wasn't about ruining anyone's fun, it was so that we could share them out otherwise they wouldn't have been opened. it's nothing to do with opening the windows, she opened ones for dates later this week just because she wanted the bigger chocolates!

Christmassyelf · 04/12/2018 13:54

For the record, I opened window number one and had the chocolate out of that window!

YABU. Either you do it ‘properly’ and give 2 people a turn each day or you bastardise the whole thing by 2 people opening 8 windows and deal with the fallout

Alanamackree · 04/12/2018 14:49

Opening the window is the whole point of an advent calendar. The contents are always a disappointment, that’s a given. But that moment of hope as the perforations in the cardboard break apart is what it’s all about. YABU

YourMilkshakeIsBetterThanMine · 04/12/2018 14:56

8 windows to open for 7 of you yet you took it upon yourself to open them all? You should have opened a door then passed it on.

Christmassyelf · 04/12/2018 15:00

So what if the windows had not been opened 1-4 and they still chose to open a later date in the month because they knew the chocolate was bigger...

She sounds great. Wish we had someone to cut through this kind of crap at our office.

apostropheuse · 04/12/2018 16:33

YABU for monopolising the ritual of The Opening of the Windows. Indeed, someone less kind and full of the Spirit of Christmas than me may be tempted to call you a CF.
