I'm having a bit of a flap because I think the presents I've ordered for my 8 and 9 year old nieces are far too young for them.

Hadn't clocked the boxes said age 4+ For a butterfly box craft kit and age 6+ For a hair brai/chalk kit (links below).

Can you please tell me what sort of thing your 8 and 9 year old girls like??? Happy to spend up to £20 ish

My 8 yo Niece loves unicorns 🦄🙄

bagsofbats · 30/11/2018 19:44

Lego, puzzles, making things, ispy books, barbies, playmobil, drawing, roller skating, making mud pies ......

Pollaidh · 30/11/2018 19:45

I think the hair braid stuff might just about be ok for the 8 yr old, unless she's quite sophisticated.

The butterfly box is a bit young, I think.

Do they watch Strictly? All the girls that age I know adore it, even though the parents don't watch. Therefore Strictly annuals etc are good. Also unicorns, ballerinas - metal jewellery is quite popular. They also seem to like toiletries (shower gel, lip balms) from Lush and Body Shop.

My 8 yr old dd loves bath bombs and anything with unicorns!

fruitpastille · 30/11/2018 19:48

Stationery always a winner. Do they go to brownies? There is lots of merchandise from bookmarks to camp blankets.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 30/11/2018 19:48

I have an 8 (nearly 9) year old and she'd be happy with those gifts.

Mewithane · 30/11/2018 19:48

Absolutely anything from Smiggle. Although would be tough to stick to a £20 budget in there!

Mumshappy · 30/11/2018 19:54

Anything to do with unicorns, LOLs, Jo Jo stuff,
Do you mean hair chalk? That would be nice.
Not sure about the other item though

FinallyFree123456789 · 30/11/2018 19:54

Anything from smiggle, bath bombs, unicorns / mermaids, LOL dolls

They're all the things I've bought my dd :-)

MooPointCowsOpinion · 30/11/2018 19:55

LOL collectible dolls (£15 each!)
My 8 yo would politely accept either of those gifts, probably even have a little play with them, don’t worry too much. If you wanted a wow present, keep looking, but if it’s a token ‘I thought of you’ gift, those do fine.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 30/11/2018 19:56

My DTs(8) loves unicorns, flamingoes and horses. Their most played with toys are their schleich horses but they are def out of your budget unless you just got them one horse each!

Pomsies are the one thing that my girls have talked about this year having heard about them at school as all their friends talking about them. They still love soft toys. (Me - not so much!)

Pretty much anything from Tiger would go down well - stationery, art stuff, games, cushions, decor etc.

They are at the stage now where they are getting really into decorating their room so have recently bought a rug (from Tiger), some cushions, (from Homesense) and some posters of cute animals.

Mumshappy · 30/11/2018 19:57

Sorry the links have loaded. I think the hair thing for the 8 year old but the craft set is too young

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/11/2018 19:58

My DD is 8 and her Christmas list is mostly Playmobil. But I know some 8yo think that's too babyish. She's also asked for Lego, she's not bothered about Smiggle and has had enough of unicorns now.

She'd love a really nice colouring book/felt pens. She loves books, but it's difficult to buy books unless you know what they enjoy.

My brownies love slime, so could you find a slime making kit?

hlob · 30/11/2018 20:07

A cheap hairdryer thrilled me about that age

I was amazed

Pollaidh · 30/11/2018 20:17

Not slime! Makes a terrible mess, stains floors, soft furnishings etc... Most parents I know have banned the stuff.

Smiggle seems to be getting a bit passe for my 8 yo.

AdamBarlowsQuiff · 30/11/2018 20:21

My nine year old would be happy with either of those gifts so don't worry too much! The ages are sometimes capability more than anything. So a four year old could decorate that box but your neice would do a much better job! If you did want to get something extra, mine was keen on those hottie type soft toys in the supermarket - where you pop it in the microwave so it's like a soft toy/hot water bottle. I've stashed her a unicorn one away but I think there were pugs or pandas too. They were a tenner.

Hercy · 30/11/2018 20:22

Wow, I am seriously out of touch. Never heard of most of these things/shops!

They're both pretty crafty, so I reckon some nice stationery from Tiger or Smiggle is a great shout, thank you :)

Mine likes Lego and LOL surprise dolls.

Anawi · 30/11/2018 20:51

My daughter is 8.5, she'd enjoy both of those gifts 😊
....as well as most other other crafty/unicorny/LOL/flamingo-y things mentioned!
