Outdoor decorations

Dd really really wants us to do outdoor decorations this year.

We have detached house in a rural area so worrying about the neighbours (apart from possibly wildlife) is not a big concern.

However it's very against the kind of people me and Dh are.

So what's the easiest least tacky way to do outdoor lights!!

We have icicles along the gutter and indoor silhouette lights on the windows

MorningCuppa · 28/11/2018 21:53

The icicles always look nice and a wreath on the front door?

greendale17 · 28/11/2018 21:54

Getting nice looking decorations

We are in a similar situation with the dc wanting outdoor lights when i would not normally have any. We do icicle lights from the gutter, a door wreath, a fairy light garland around the front door and a live tree in a pot (with fairy lights) by the door.

GreyGardens88 · 29/11/2018 00:09

Anything as long as its not multiple coloured or any light apart from white or warm white

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/11/2018 00:12

We have warm white lights around the outside of the porch and lights on a tree in the front garden. And a wreath on the front door. If we didn't already have a tree I'd buy some small potted Christmas trees to put by the door with some lights on them.

NC4Now · 29/11/2018 00:15

What you really need is one of those big inflatable snowmen, with polystyrene beads.

llangennith · 29/11/2018 01:56

I'm old and was brought up to believe it was tacky but you know what? All those garish Christmas lights are FUN😊
Having had very tasteful tree decorations and white lights for many years I decided a few years ago to have different coloured baubles and coloured flashing lights. Wonderful!
If I had someone to put up lights at the front of my house I'd go for it. As much tat as I could afford.

moredoll · 29/11/2018 02:03

Goldy white fairy lights on trees.

I agree with the pp though that outside displays are cheering and fun.

Stressedoverkids · 29/11/2018 07:29

If you put rope lights around windows how do you get them to be the right length?

We have those stars that hang down in strips in all the upstairs windows. Outside we have lights around the porch and small Christmas trees in pots with lights on. We have all white ones but I quite like the coloured ones just not keen on those blue ones.

flimp · 29/11/2018 10:04

Re rope lights, we got some warm white twinkly ones and got them roughly 3 x the width of the house. Then plugged in bedroom and just ran across in a line back and forth under the upstairs windows IYSWIM.

I say 'just' but I didn't have to do it!

Angelinthenight · 29/11/2018 12:46

We have bought a real tree already in a tub and have outdoor lights to put on it ,simple but its all i want x

Pinkprincess1978 · 29/11/2018 12:51

Last year we bought a small out door xmas tree in a pot which we have planted (still in pot to keep roots contained) and at Christmas we have these battery operated round white ball lights. They look lovely and subtle (we don't do subtle, we also have thee big light up penguins in the window and when I get around to it this weekend we will have lights strung up in other windows 😂)

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 29/11/2018 13:05

We usually have the icicle lights outside (warm white), a tree with lights, a wreath on the door and a reindeer made by someone that we got at our local Christmas fair. However, this year DH has bought the tacky Aldi candy canes for outside, either side of the path. He's excited but I think they will look awful. Confused

I’ve been a warm white lights on a tasteful shrub kind of girl all my life, just bought myself a great big fuck off projector, can’t wait to see the neighbours faces Grin
