Sensory boxes/ treasure boxes

Looking for some ideas!

DS will be 6 months at Xmas so isn't going to have a clue what's going on! My family will have gone crazy with presents so I'm planning on doing maybe 3 sensory boxes for him to have throughout the day and am looking for some ideas.

If anyone knows of any cheap wicker baskets by the way, send details my way please

So I've got;

Box 1- see through scarves and sensory textured balls that I'm going to hide in it

Box 2 - already have wooden nail brush, micro fibre mop thing, egg shaker, foil blanket. Also planning on pine cone, whisk, wooden spoon and dried orange/lime (side point, these are taking bloody ages to dry in the oven!). Any other ideas?

Box 3- shredded paper, bottle with coloured water and oil, bottle with sequins, maybe bottle with rice or pasta.

What else would be good do you think and do you think this is a good idea?

Sounds like a good idea. What about a mug tree or kitchen roll holder and a range of things to add on to it, like wooden curtain rings, textured his bobbles (e.g. large velour scrunchy) could knit/crochet/plait wollen rings etc. That might extend his play a little.

Oh and anything mirrored too- maybe one of those baby safe mirrors small children can pick up.

Seems a bit virtue signalling to me. Why not just let him play with the presents your family have bought him?

It's not meant to be at all, it's more that there's nothing left for me to buy him!

Won’t your family be disappointed that he will not be allowed to play with their presents - fair enough if he isn’t engaging with them but .....

I’ve been trying to get my 1 year old playing with treasure boxes and do sensory play since 6 months! She has zero interest 😂🙈. Flings the bottles, won’t touch the stuff and empties the boxes out and opens and closes the lids without looking at the stuff I lovingly gathered for her.

I should have been mentioned that family won't all be seen on actual Xmas day. The boxes wouldn't just be for the day either but for home too, maybe I should just do one with bits for him to play with then.

A safety mirror, babies love looking at themselves! My 2 year old still loves playing with fake oranges and apples when we go to the in-laws, they're quite light not like wooden ones but I'm not sure where you get them from.
A bath scrunchy thing, can't remember what they're called.
A natural sponge
A cardboard box or carton with a lid they can open and close and put things in
Bangles, metal and wooden (charity shop might be good for these)

I think it's a good idea, at that age mine didn't really play with toys much. I saw wicker hamper baskets at B&M and Card Factory

Pom-poms
Cotton wool
Foil trays

I made a smelly bean bag for ours using a baby sock filled with rice with a little lavender oil on.

10 years later, it's on my desk at work!

Sensory boxes are great. My daughter (6m) goes to a sensory class every week. She likes:

Light up wands
Bells
Crackly balls that look like cat toys
Bubbles
Scarves
Wooden spoon and plastic bowl
String with beads on to rattle.

@EmmaJR1 Nope I'm in a fine mood thanks. I just don't see what's wrong with letting kids play with errr... toys on Christmas Day

My DSs adored theirs (I was confused, but polite, when DS1 was given what appeared to be a wicker box of random tat...I was proved very wrong!).
