Gimmicky xmas foods to avoid

This thread brought to you courtesy of Iceland's Christmas Tree flavoured crisps. They are kettle-style crisps, and are absolutely rank. I usually finish up food even if I don't particularly like it (I hate waste) but neither teenage DS nor I could stomach these at all.

Anything else to avoid?

Anything Prosecco flavoured that’s not actually Prosecco!

fromtheshires · 26/11/2018 13:16

pigs in blanket tea
brussel sprouts tea

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/11/2018 13:18

Personally:

any cheese with added flavours. I don't want cranberries or ginger .

my DC were horrified at the thought of the Walkers crisps (Sprout Lover/Hater) , I didn't buy any

any over decorated chocolate gateaux, I just know it'll sit ther huffily judging me Xmas Grin

BeyondVicious · 26/11/2018 13:21

Things that involve sticking a load of different food items together. Three (four?) bird roast, and the fish equivalent...

mrsoutnumbered · 26/11/2018 13:25

I saw an advert at a bus stop for Iceland salmon and Prosecco soufflés. 🤢

KeyboardKatie · 26/11/2018 13:35

Prosecco Pringles - tried and tested - NO!

FitzChivalryFarseer · 26/11/2018 13:38

I have tried Walker’s Brussels Sprouts crisps, so you don’t have to. 🤢
And I love sprouts.

Chocolatecake12 · 26/11/2018 13:40

Yes I agree with the Brussels crisps Confused

darceybussell · 26/11/2018 13:51

M&S prosecco caramel chocolates - sounded quite nice, like a champagne truffle maybe - nope, they just taste gone off!

ArcheryAnnie · 26/11/2018 14:01

pigs in blanket tea

That exists? Blergh. Unless it's just an exotic kind of bovril, and then it's kind of acceptable.

But milk and two sugars?

OP posts:
fromtheshires · 26/11/2018 14:21

Yes, they really exist

Pig in Blanket tea

Sprout tea

Meet0nTheIedge · 26/11/2018 14:23

Pringles Pig in Blanket flavour. Just stick to the regular flavours.

WhenEnoughIsEnough · 26/11/2018 14:24

Pigs in blanket flavoured Pringles, I thought they would just be like smoky bacon ones. They are vile and I can't put my finger on why.

TisTheSeasonToBeAWally · 26/11/2018 14:26

Yy to anything prosecco that isn’t actually prosecco. Those M&S prosecco crisps last year even managed to put me off actual prosecco 🤢

thismeansnothing · 26/11/2018 14:34

Aldi salted caramel mince pies. They aren't even salty and the caramel is stingy.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 26/11/2018 14:44

We really liked the prosecco and pink peppercorn Pringles.

KittyMcTitty · 26/11/2018 17:22

Ha ha love this thread

FelicityLemon · 26/11/2018 18:12

I have the Iceland crisps, not opened yet. I decided that at £1 they were worth the risk, although after the Heston toilet duck pine sugar dusted mince pie debacle a few years ago, I'm not sure why I thought that!

ArcheryAnnie · 26/11/2018 23:49

Hmm, looking at the pigs-in-blankets tea, it doesn't have any actual pork in it, just sage and rosemary, and I think I'd try that!

Agree re prosecco crisps. Why try and flavour something that is crunchy and fatty with something that is supposed to be sparkling and light?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 27/11/2018 02:40

Mint choc cheddar cheese.
On the bright side that was one xmas dinner party I'll never forget.

duriandurian · 27/11/2018 06:41

Waitrose gave us the Heston black cherry chocolate mince pies for free online. Haven't opened yet but note the OFM gives them 1*. I don't think I have ever eaten any of his Waitrose line with enjoyment rather than mild revulsion/amazement that he has wrecked some other standard food offering.

troodiedoo · 27/11/2018 06:46

Prosecco and peppercorn Pringles. I will never forgive myself for buying them. I spend all year moaning to dh about brands fucking about with flavours. I was swayed by the festiveness. He will remind me of this forever, I just know it.

Taffeta · 27/11/2018 06:49

My mum brought round some Waitrose Gin and Pink Peppercorn crisps

Even the DC spat them out Grin - foul

I’m nodding at the fucked about with cheese, sadly available all year

averythinline · 27/11/2018 07:25

Anyone atempted the Iceland Sushi doughnuts? DS v keen to try as combining 2 of his favourites ....I just think will be grim - but am not keen on strange combinations so am biased :)

ElideLochan · 27/11/2018 07:28

I saw an advert at a bus stop for Iceland salmon and Prosecco soufflés.

Surely that's just salmon and white wine? Isn't that ok?
