Where can I get a mantel garland please?

This year, I'd like to do more than just put up a Christmas tree. Would anyone know where I could get a nice (fake but looks real) garland for the fireplace mantel? Ideally I'd like it with some little battery operated lights rather than have to plug into the mains.

I can only find very long ones in shops I recognise or shorter ones on Amazon but the reviews are generally poor,, although I imagine, the reviews are from people with an overall higher standard of decorations than me! However, I'd like to be able to re-use it annually so would like a nice one.

Can anybody help?

Thank you.

I make my own.

Holly, ivy, rosemary - all from the garden. I poke in a few small baubles and battery lights, hidden in the foliage.

I've got a lovely one from IKEA! They don't come with lights but their battery operated ones are cheap too so you could intertwine them?

Laura Ashley 180 cm was £50 (eek!) now £30 (still eek?)
Looks pretty though?

M&S, also pretty, 6ft £25 (I'm tempted actually)

If it is too long, just double it and give it a twist every so often so it stays in place.

The M&S one looks good. If you want it to hang just below the mantel, not draped over the top as in the picture, get a couple of S shaped butchers hooks, put one at each end of the mantel and fix the garland to the underhang.

Otherwise, get the B&Q one and add lights, ribbon, little decorations and bits of natural greenery. We have one rather like this, I was trying to work out when I bought it and I think it was 1986, but it is still looking good once it is up, decorated and lit.

We have two other fireplaces which have garlands in different styles.

I’m going to be very fussy and say I don’t like greenery that is sprayed to look silver or white.

I have zero creativity and think any DIY one would look exactly that and not in a good way!

Are they supposed to hang down the sides? I’m not sure I like that look. I prefer them just on top of the fireplace but maybe they are supposed to hang down? I’ve never had one?

I got a lovely one for John Lewis

We had ours from B&M last year for less than £20
Battery lights and some pine cones and berries. Cheap and cheerful but effective!

Etsy and Notonthehighstreet have some nice ones but will take a while to search through. There are loads of non traditional ideas too

TrickyD · 25/11/2018 13:08

I tend to agree with not spraying greenery. But I like an overhand at the sides. Here are our three fireplaces, sitting room, dining room and snug.

Or even an overhang. 😀

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 25/11/2018 13:16

Get a relatively basic one and put it up, the tick lots of real greenery, holly, pine cones etc in it. I do this every year. Much easier than making your own from scratch but it looks real because of all the real cuttings. B and M’s for battery powered lights

Bloominglovely · 25/11/2018 13:19

Oh those three photos are beautiful, particularly numbers one and three. The fireplace in pic three is fabulous!

The battery lights and decs came with the B&M one. You could add extra if you wanted to!

BigBumandMumTum · 25/11/2018 13:32

Ohyesiam · 25/11/2018 13:33

Battery lights on amazon

MissMarplesKnitting · 25/11/2018 13:36

This is a WIP from The Range.

Removed lights but will add back in. Add contents of a few extra Christmas floral picks (also from the range, under £2) and pine cones.

I've finished it now but haven't got a picture!
