I want to do something different on the tree this year. I cant really afford to get lots of new decorations was thinking of making paperchains with the kids for one of the trees we have three

Was going to get some nice paper to do it with like this. Our trees are all decorated traditional.

Sounds a bit naff to me, is be wary what it would look like. What's wrong with your old decorations? Most people don't buy new every year

Why not, if it's something you and the children will enjoy doing? If you decide you don't like them on the tree, you can always put them somewhere else.

I have tried, it looked a bit 'blocky'. I would make small rather than big rings, and lots. It looks nicer to drape them horizontally (with a drop between branches iyswim) rather than hanging them in straight lines. Google and you'll see what I mean.

We have several but in bold colours with no pattern.

Two are fairly small rings and one is large. We do a colourful tree anyway so they fit. The lRge one is normally nearer the bottom of the tree, the smaller ones around the middle.
