Puzzles like a Rubik's cube

The Rubik's cube is quite a hit with DS13 although he googles how to solve it Hmm Not sure if that counts as having done it?

Is there another similar puzzle out there where he can cheat to complete?

I need a few more stocking fillers. The older they get, the more expensive things get but the boxes are smaller so it looks less.Sad

Places like B&M bargains, Home Bargains etc often have sets of wooden puZzles, or interlocking metal puzzles

IQ Twist is brilliant, I love it as much as my DD and it has various levels to work up

You get different types of rubiks cube.

The gear cube is lots of fun and easier than the 3x3 cube as it only has one proper algorithm to learn.

The 2x2 cube and Pyraminx are easier than the 3x3 cube so would be good options for his current skill level.

If he has a conventional Rubik's Cube then you could get him a speed cube or one of the different colour versions - you can also get 2x2 and Pyraminx versions of these.

The void cube is slightly harder than the conventional cube and is good for learning the parity errors (when you solve it but two cubes end up on the wrong place) that you have to solve on the bigger cubes.

The 4x4 cube isn't that much harder than the 3x3 cube but I find the parity errors annoying as it's several more algorithms to learn.

HTH!

Thank you for the responses. StuntNun, you clearly are very well up on the subject! Thanks for the tips.

I just watched [ THIS]] which was informative and i just purchased a Gear Cube (thanks StuntNun). I did think about getting David's Gear Cube, but it was nearly double the price and I cannot be certain whether my DS likes puzzles or just likes the positive rush of completing it, albeit with the help of Youtube and so let's try the cheaper puzzle first.

The works have all different shapes and I believe there is a cheat/trick version which is popular

My ds is obsessed with these sorts of puzzles. He has a pyraminx, a 2x2, 3x3, megaminx. For Christmas he's getting a ghost cube and a redi cube. Don't ask me any more detail, I haven't a clue!
