I need to get a present for my nearly 10yo niece - my kids are a bit younger so I don't have many ideas. What are the young people into these days?

My dd 10 has outgrown most toys Sad although she does like board and card games still! She likes tech and gadgets and will be getting a (cheap) fitness band and an Anker bluetooth speaker. She is also into Kawaii things, esp stationery. Slime is/was popular with that age although I think that craze is tailing off thank god!

Jenniferturkington · 21/11/2018 19:49

Yes my dd is still really in to slime. Last Christmas I got her a box of slime ingredients which was a hit. In fact she will be getting the same again this year!
She is also in to cricket and basketball so will get some stuff for that.
Unicorns, make-up, hair chalks, stationery, art supplies and beanie boos are other things she likes.

Thirtyrock39 · 21/11/2018 19:54

I've banned slime as it's just so grim and have had many a nasty carpet stain from misplaced pots of it.
My 10 yo is struggling with her Xmas list but likes lol dolls, stationary, things for her room such as those light boxes with letters, board games ...
I'm also considering something like a Nintendo ds with Nintendogs if they still exist
Jaqueline Wilson books and David Williams books also popular

Isadora2007 · 21/11/2018 20:02

Yes to the kawaii art stuff- I got a book really cheap on amazon of how to draw cute kawaii things and it went down well with some nice felt pens (quality ones not supermarket!).
A voucher for Claire’s accessories (unless they’re closing!?!?) or smiggle if there is one nearby would also go down well.
Or stationery stuff- my dd loves craft and stationery etc.
Notonthehighstreet has lovely wee bracelets that can be personalised with birth gem, Initial, wee animal etc from a seller called “mini bloom” for £21 which are lovely as well.

BlancheM · 21/11/2018 20:04

Anything unicorn themed. This time last year the shops were all unicorned out but they're back with a vengeance and the kids can't get enough of 'em!

22Giraffes · 21/11/2018 20:05

Yes I forgot about lightboxes! dd has also asked for one of those. Also agree that David Walliams books are popular!

sleepismysuperpower1 · 21/11/2018 20:08

my niece (also 10) loves 'makeup sets', which basically consist of lipbalms and eyeshadows. she has one similar to this from claires. my daughter loved things very similar at that age too. :)

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 21/11/2018 20:14

Can the parent/s give you some guidance regarding what she likes? What's the budget?

If she's not really into toys anymore maybe something for her room such as cute storage boxes, a cozy throw, string lights, maybe something like this? www.brightminds.co.uk/products/creativity-for-kids-light-up-decor-arrow?variant=9281599569962

Bomb cosmetics do some lovely gift boxes if she'd like something that feels a bit more grown up. bombcosmetics.co.uk/gift-packs

My 10yo DD has surprised me by asking for an “our generation” doll. A lot of her classmates have asked their parents/Santa for make up palettes and hair curlers etc, so it’s quite refreshing to see she’s not caught up in that just yet.
Other than the doll, I’ve bought craft kits, books, board games, Xbox game, and the usual pj’s and slippers etc Smile

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 21/11/2018 20:18

And by make up palettes I mean the likes of urban decay and Charlotte Tilbury etc Shock

margaritasbythesea · 21/11/2018 20:18

My dd still really likes toys (og dolls, Sylvanian Family, baby dolls) but also likes all the things mentioned here too.

Branleuse · 21/11/2018 20:23

Shes still into slime. She also likes gym equipment and wants some weights and some climbing gear.

OhBugger125 · 21/11/2018 20:30

Lego here - but not Lego Friends as my DD hates the fact that it is targeted at girls (quite proud that she is totally against the whole 'pink' targeted marketing in general ).
She'd like Grossery Gang items too, a Wonder Woman poster for her room, and stationary. A very short list this year !

PlayingForKittens · 21/11/2018 20:33

Mine will be 10 next month. She likes Lego, particularly Jurassic world stuff. Snap circuits, science sets, books. Lots of books. Anything feminist related.

Boatsnack3 · 21/11/2018 20:38

Dd isn't 10 till January but she's still really into slime, stationery, smiggle and Harry potter.

She's asked for baking things for Christmas so cake tins etc but she'd love anything from the above list too. She and her friends also seem to love a mooch round Primark so vouchers might work.

halcyondays · 21/11/2018 21:04

slime
lip balm
unicorns
llamas
stationery

akmum18 · 21/11/2018 21:10

Another one with DD 10 just after Christmas she’s into slime, squishies, lol dolls, Sylvanian families, Lego, any craft sets, cuddly toys, loves baking so either doughnut/popcorn/waffle maker have been requested. Also a fan of Jacqueline Wilson and David walliams books can’t go wrong with a book or two. Still occasionally plays with dolls and Barbies. Does she have her ears pierced? A board game, craft set or gift card for smiggle/Claire’s is popular at the moment for party gifts too if that helps.

m0therofdragons · 21/11/2018 21:12

Dd is 10 and desperately wants a cute hot water bottle (despite always being hot in bed) and a head-torch. Not sure that's normal for a 10yo but is for my 10yo.

Didiplanthis · 21/11/2018 21:46

My 9 yr old is quite 'young' which I love. She's not into tech or make up yet other than lip balm and nail polish occasionally. She loves designer friend dolls from Argos, squashies, slime and stationery. She also wants a fish tank !!

Asj0405 · 21/11/2018 22:19

I've bought my daughter one of these and she's guna love it

Also got her one of these

this also looks good

and this

She would also like most of the things mentioned above slime, board games, books, squishes, stationary (smiggle mainly) craft kits such as a make your own bath bombs/lava lamp etc.

doublethink · 21/11/2018 22:21

Lego, Playmobil, books, wool/crochet hooks/pompom makers.

Holidayshopping · 21/11/2018 22:28

Echo Spot
iPad case
Toy microphone

She would love anything from Smiggle!

doublethink · 22/11/2018 00:40

And board games! Carcassonne, Pandemic, The Mind, Forbidden Island, Gubs, Hanabi all hits here.

YouCantBeSirius · 22/11/2018 00:59

Mine has asked for Harry Potter things. So I've got the Harry and Hedwig brickheadz and a HP hoodie and t-shirt. She loves drawing so asked for prismacolor pencils and a how to draw manga book.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 22/11/2018 02:10

Harry Potter, Tim Burton films, art materials, "cool" t-shirts and tops, nice socks, funky alice band, japanese Kawaii stuff.
