Can't be bothered to make my own this year. Fresh or frozen?
Who does the best?

Iceland's Luxury Pigs In Blankets...mmm

they came 1st in the Good Housekeeping taste test :)

Newkitchenideas1 · 21/11/2018 18:17

Iv heard good things about Aldi's frozen pigs in blankets. I always buy frozen in advance and they have always been nice

TimeToRevolutionize · 21/11/2018 18:28

Just get frozen. Much nicer!

dancingqueen345 · 21/11/2018 18:32

Do you have a local farm that sells produce? Our local one does them and they're epic

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 21/11/2018 18:33

We always shopped in Sainsbury's, Marks and Asda previously but this year we discovered Aldi Grin I've been super impressed with their food all year so will be getting the majority of the Christmas dinner from there. The pigs in blankets they have look yummy

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 21/11/2018 18:35

Oh and agree, just go with frozen. We bought the Sainsbury's Christmas food to order the year before last and I was unimpressed.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 21/11/2018 18:48

i could not afford to buy as many as we need.

Last year I made NINETY SIX and they were all gone by close of play Boxing Day.

there was seven of us for Christmas Day and a couple of visitors for Boxing day.

Angelinthenight · 21/11/2018 19:07

Id say fresh but frozen would taste almost the same x

Rosethistle7 · 21/11/2018 19:31

We had Tesco and M&S last year and the Tesco ones were actually the nicer of the two.

22Giraffes · 21/11/2018 19:47

Morrisons are horrible Envy

SilentBob · 21/11/2018 20:05

We do a pigs in tasting every year. M and s have routinely come out bottom (blind tasting) Morrison's came out top last year, beating all other supermarkets and our local award winning butcher.

We have yet to do our pigs in tasting this year.

I'll try to remember to update if I'm not too busy wallowing in pigs.

SilentBob · 21/11/2018 20:06

Tesco!!!! Sorry, I meant Tesco came out top last year! Bloody hell! I've not even had any yet and I seem to be deliriously piggy!

SuburbanRhonda · 21/11/2018 20:08

I hate the term pigs in blankets.

Makes it sound all lovely and cosy when it’s actually one bit of a dead pig wrapped up in another bit of a dead pig.

This isn’t a dig at meat eaters btw, just the term.

Maryann1975 · 21/11/2018 20:13

Aldi frozen ones are fab. We have been having them on our practice Christmas dinners (Sunday dinners) for a few weeks and they are as good as last year. My only advice, if you want any for the leftovers, don’t put them all on the table on Christmas Day, save some in the kitchen for later on.

DisillusionedEmployee · 21/11/2018 21:52

Well I generally shop at Aldi so I guess I will start there!

Watching with interest. Dd no longer eats meat; dh and I eat less (mostly cured meats and chicken); ds is massive meat fan.
Am thinking of a vegetarian Christmas dinner, plus epic quantities of PIBs.
I found a suggestion of roast halloumi wrapped in thinly sliced smoky aubergine as an alternative, which sounds right up dd’s street.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 22/11/2018 08:56

what would you call that quince ?? Sheepjuice in VeggieSheets?

if you are going down that route I'd have thought mozzarella might be nicer than halloumi

TheGirlWhoLived · 22/11/2018 12:07

Have you seen the pigs in duvets? They’re cute! Wrapped in pastry Grin

WWYDhelpplease · 22/11/2018 18:14

I am sure I read that Aldi are doing a triple sausage pigs in blankets this year.

Parky04 · 22/11/2018 18:48

Aldi are doing a foot long pig in blanket!!

PhilomenaButterfly · 22/11/2018 18:49

We buy Sainsbury's fresh. DS2 has them for snacks all year round! 😂

PodgeBod · 22/11/2018 22:59

I've yet to meet a pig-in-blanket I didn't enjoy but we had Aldi last year and they were lovely.

MotherofPearl · 22/11/2018 23:05

This thread has made my day, especially Rhonda's. I know what you mean about the name, but it's also just irresistibly silly! And irresistibly delicious.
