Over 70s mums

Who 'don't need anything love'. X 2 as MIL says the same.

Got my ma a book about trees and a bottle of port. Have about £30 quid budget for an extra.

MIL has budget of 50. She likes Bacardi but that's what I've bought her the last 2 years.

Both like gardening, are pretty active although both have had a tough year health wise. My mum is a bit of a hippy, mil is really not. Neither huge foodies, both have a metric fuckton of jewellery, scarfs, gloves, beauty stuff etc and neither live candles and house stuff.

ANY ideas? MIL needs to be settled this week as we are doing early pressie exchange this weekend.

Gardening vouchers?

MinecraftHolmes · 18/11/2018 17:59

If your MIL likes Bacardi I'd get her a bottle of that tbh - if she likes it it doesn't really matter that you got her it in previous years, and it sort of balances with the port for your DM.

What about a nice pair of gardening gloves, new pruning shears? You could probably put together a "gardeners gift bag" quite easily with that sort of thing, gardeners soap and hand cream (e.g. like this). It might not be very glamorous, but I find "nicer versions of things she uses" go down quite well with my own mum and me tbh and I'm no where near 70.

National Trust memberships? Gardening magazine subscription?

YetAnotherThing · 18/11/2018 18:01

This is exactly my mum (and dad) too! So last few years I have got my parents tickets for things instead.. last year we did Hampton court flower show which wasn’t too expensive. Have also done ancestry subscription before (although that was more pricey). Could you treat her to a day trip somewhere with you all. Quality time...

My 75 yr old mum wants port or sherry.

fatpatsthong · 18/11/2018 18:13

Count duckula - so do I!

Actually what they like but better is good - fancy hand wash and cream for MIL with a Bacardi and maybe a book. My mother is devoted to tea so some posh blends....

Thank you all

I actually had a brainwave re mil - thought I'd share. She always used to crochet - took it up when she stopped smoking to keep her hands busy.

She stopped years ago when life was busy but dh said she always enjoyed it so we just found her a kit to make a funky blanket. No idea if it will hit the spot but we got fil a model train kit so they can craft together!

I've got one of these but to make matters worse she's incredibly tight frugal so even if you get her vouchers she complains you've spent too much. She gets bought a lot of plants.

iwantasofa · 18/11/2018 18:58

And she's teetotal!

cupofteaplease · 18/11/2018 19:00

My mum (70) wants a sandwich toaster!

Wormwoodm · 18/11/2018 19:10

Crabtree and Evelyn Gardner’s handcream. I buy it for step mother in law every year. Anything else gets regifted!
