What does DS 7 "need"

So I try to follow the mantra of "something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read at Christmas. They get lots from relatives so don't go without.
I'm really stuck for ideas for DS as can't think of anything he needs at the moment. Anyone care to suggest something he might need to jog my thought and give me some inspiration.

My seven year old plays lots of sport so always needs stuff for that. Things like swimming goggles, Football boots, tennis racket, helmet for baseball. Then things for his room - warm Blanket for bed. New beside lamp. Lunch or school bag. And he needs to learn his timetables, so maybe a dvd of fun times tables things.

DD7 is the same as above: sport related gear, things for her room. This year it’s replacing basic art supplies.

Board games sort of fall in the need category I think. I try to get one each Christmas.

Pencil case
Slippers
Wellies
Dressing gown
Hat, gloves and scarf
Water bottle
Umbrella
Mug, plate, bowl, egg cup, cutlery
Toothbrush
Torch
Sleeping bag

Honestly, i would say if you can't think of something then there probably isn't something he needs. Why not just get him a second present that is something he wants instead?

Why don’t you just get him something he would like rather than sticking to a mantra?

All the things he wants this year are lots of money plus it’s his birthday the week before Christmas so there will be lots of toys. I think I might do board game.

Things he wants will also come from others.
