Fighting the twitch already!

I've been pretty organised this year and I've bought most of the dcs presents already.

We've spent quite a lot on them but I don't think it looks very much and I'm seriously fighting the urge to buy more just to make the pile bigger. I know this is ridiculous.

Dc are both under 5 and I know they'll love their gifts.

How do you fight the twitch!?

I didn't. Blush I twitched and I bought more. I have to say I am much happier with the pile now though. Although that happiness has cost me about £300 more than I initially intended.

RumAppleGinger · 12/11/2018 13:20

How much bigger is the pile going to be when you add the gifts from grandparents, aunties/uncles etc.

Don't twitch! Your DCs will be happy with what you have for them.

YerAuntFanny · 12/11/2018 13:25

I'm another who is fighting the twitch.

My DC's don't need or want more "stuff", just a select few things so why bother with everything else?!

Instead of a mound of semi-interesting stuff they have a handful of gifts which I know they will enjoy far beyond christmas day and by the time friends/family have added to it they'll have plenty of random bits I'm sure.

Angelkd · 12/11/2018 13:29

My husband gives me into trouble for this ,i get it every year.i know my children have enough ,its in my head that it isnt. Think if u wrap them early then makes u not want to buy more.x

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 12/11/2018 13:35

Me too! I’m really struggling to fight the urge to spend more on them. They get soooo much, Christmas Day with their dad and his partner/family with grandparents and great grandparents, aunts and uncles etc. Then Boxing Day with me and dh where they get presents from us and two sets of grandparents and great grandparents. They seriously don’t need anymore! So far just off me and dh they have:
DD1 (14)
Llama fairy lights
Cuddly llama
Llama letting
Knee high socks (she asked for?!)
Artist sketch pad and pencils
Lindt chicks

Ds1 (10)
100 Pokemon shinies (?!) bargin from eBay!
Pokemon GEOX beasts set
Cuddly panda (it’s HUGE!)
Pokemon card album
Sweets

DD2 (9)
Tiny tears doll (she specifically asked for one that cried real tears?!)
Dress and boots
Make up bag with a few natural collection bits in
Huge cuddly unicorn

DS2 (7)
Match attax 100 card mega tin
Huge cuddly monkey
Imaginext batcave with joker toy

I’ve tried to work it so they have 3 presents each but my dd’s are so much easier to buy for so they’ve ended up with more! Will probably get ds2 a match attax album. But I’m getting twitchy and thinking it’s not enough!

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 12/11/2018 13:36

Llama key ring not letting!

PhilomenaButterfly · 12/11/2018 13:38

I don't get the twitch. Having to buy one present a week does that.

iceskatekate · 12/11/2018 13:46

Welcome fellow twitchers!

@rumappleginger We have quite a small family so they don't really get many more presents and often what they do get isn't really suitable although the dc are obviously still appreciative.

I also do this every year, I just feel the need for the living room to resemble santas workshop.

We have a little extra money this year so the twitch is stronger than ever .

Funnyface1 · 12/11/2018 13:51

I do this every year and I'm just starting with it now. Dd is only 2 so I think I've got enough for her, but ds is 8 and I really could just buy and buy and buy for him. I'll have to look at everything all together and see if it looks enough. So far I just have lists and the presents are hidden in different locations all over the house!

BlueOooChristmas · 12/11/2018 13:52

LOL this exactly.

Spam88 · 12/11/2018 14:10

Rather than twitching, my current issue is that I'm feeling mega guilty that my poor little girl fractured her foot while I was away with work last week so now I want to give her everything early.

Although I did write out what I've bought her on another thread earlier and thought it doesn't look much Blush don't think my DH will be impressed if I buy any more though.

Vicious2018 · 12/11/2018 14:21

Yes! For dd there is all sort of things I could get her. But dh thinks she has enough. I need to get one present more for ds but I just don't know what. He loves Lego but he is getting enough of that already. When ever I go to shops to see something for him I see tens of things dd would like.

Ooplesandbanoonoos · 12/11/2018 14:23

You could use the extra money for a special outing at Christmas or buy clothes etc you know they are going to need through the year and add them to the pile.
I said we were only getting my 2 month old baby a couple of gifts but i have got lots and will end up with more Blush i know how you feel!

Curious2468 · 12/11/2018 14:49

Me too with the twitch! Finished the kids shopping a week or two ago but still find myself window shopping 🙄

I find a list with prices helps me realise they have plenty. It’s tricky here as my daughter is so much easier to buy for than my son

RemyRelax · 12/11/2018 14:50

Yes! I try to start early so that I save money but just end up buying more in the long run. Especially as I forget bits that I’ve bought and so end up with much more than planned! I should just buy everything in the week before Blush

Grobagsforever · 12/11/2018 14:51

Fight the twitch by giving to charity. Don't buy more tat for landfill!!!

Angelkd · 12/11/2018 15:06

I dont buy tat im so against that, why i dont do stocking for my children, when my children dont play with toys anymore i give them away so things do get re-used.think i just like to see my kids faces on xmas morning so do like to spoil them.i never got much from the age of 8 so i want different for my children.my younger ones only have asked for 2 things so they are not greedy x

Deadringer · 12/11/2018 15:08

What she said ^^

Deadringer · 12/11/2018 15:09

Sorry what growbags said, enough is enough

iceskatekate · 12/11/2018 15:34

Buying lots of presents doesn't equal tat. Neither does it mean I don't give to charity.

We donate all our outgrown toys and clothes so I'm not overly concerned about that aspect.

I agree about writing the prices in the list, I did that earlier to give myself a reality check!

Black Friday is coming up though and there a few more things I quite fancy for dc

OP posts:
Angelkd · 12/11/2018 15:48

I think there is so much amazing toys out there i want to buy them ,im wrapping in a few weeks so this may stop me buying more, last year i went crazy so trying to stop going that far this year. I love christmas.i forgot about black friday, ive never bought anything on that day, are the deals any good for toys?x

Lovemusic33 · 12/11/2018 16:10

I’m twitching. I wrapped the dd’s Presents today, doesn’t look much now they are teens but has cost quite a lot. I will pick them up a few bits of clothes which will bulk it out a bit but the really don’t need or want much else so I must control myself.

I might buy myself a few gifts instead as there’s lots that I need and want and I don’t get any presents (family don’t really bother). I will be looking for a few bits during Black Friday deals.

BangingOn · 12/11/2018 16:24

Start a secret Pinterest board for each child and upload photos of all of the gifts you have bought them. It also looks more that way than written in a list.

Alanamackree · 12/11/2018 21:01

I keep back a small amount of the budget for one last gift, but I hold out as long as possible. It helps control the twitch and often there’s some book or game or something that they see in December and start wanting.
