Gingerbread decorations

Hi all,
I have had the idea of decorating the Christmas tree this year with just lights, gingerbread decorations and dried lemon and orange slices. But has anyone done this? Does the gingerbread stay edible or would it just be for show? Is it a stupid idea??
Thanks!

It's a lovely idea, especially with some bright white icing (add some egg white to the icing sugar). Gingerbread will go stale and dusty though.

They would last as long and be as edible as gingerbread houses surely? I have never considered dustiness when eating houses post Christmas.

That's true. We don't tend to have a tree up for long so maybe it would be fine. I think I'll try it. Thank you for the replies!

I have done this a few times. Lovely to make and great fun with DC.

Some years they have not hung for long. Sometimes they go a bit soft and the hole stretches. Other years they dry out and crack around the hole. It probably depends on the recipe and how dry, humid the room is.
