Reverse Advent Calendar: Food Bank

Just a reminder that your local food bank are looking for donations.

Every day, instead of eating poor quality chocolate (with palm oil) , you put an item in to a hamper so a family gets a hamper of goodies on Christmas Day ...

Did you have a link? I’ve seen this and it’s a good idea, the advent thing has gotten out of control

Ah I see it says to contact your local food bank to find what they need - good idea:

I think that each foodbank have their own list of items in need ...

It won’t be delivered to a family for Christmas. The timing is too tight and they are likely to sepeeatenit tommake up the meal pirtionsnthey give out. Nice idea but you’d be asvwell jusy donating and not thinking of it as a Christmas hamper.

Yes it occurred to me that rather than deluge them at the end I should make several small drops to the collection points in local supermarkets in December

PristineCondition · 10/11/2018 06:07

Give them a bag of food at the start of December.
A family won’t get a hamper it will be split into lots depending on need and if it’s close to Christmas Day chances are it won’t get allocated in time

We are doing this as a countdown to advent throughout November. It Helps remind the children that not everyone is as fortunate as they are. And we will be buying extra advent calendars in the last week to add into the foodbank donations too.

It is just a lovely counterbalance to the usual choc fest and enritlement that goes on at Christmas.

Our bank is asking for extras like socks, hot water bottles, pillows ... again a hamper FOR Christmas v ON Christmas.

This year for one year only we're getting the Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar. We're usually pretty reserved on that front and DS does not expect it to be repeated.

This has given me the idea to take him to a supermarket and spend the same amount on a food bank contribution, in plenty of time for Christmas.

In fact, let's make it a November tradition, regardless of whether we're having an advent calendar.
