I’ve heard it’s recyclable unlike traditional wrapping paper, but how are people making it look festive?

Butcher’s string! Red and white, or red, white, and green versions look so lovely on brown paper packages. I tie on a brown tag, attached with the string also.

Rafia works well too

If you have time and a bit of an artistic bent, you can stamp festive patterns / messages on it

Washi tape too. Peels off easily.

If you google recyclable wrapping paper there are a few shops that have brown decorated paper. Then team with paper bow.

If you have very little DC, a high mess tolerance and are teetering on the edge of insanity, you can let them do green & red hand and foot prints along the roll.

I did this with my PFB and we turned the prints into reindeer. The painting was almost fun but trying to dry it and use it as wrapping was ill advised. I think we also threw a load of plastic glitter on it.

Definitely pretty ribbon & tags.
Decorating the paper is a job for the specialist homemaker/expert crafter/slightly manic new mother.

Jute/hessian string (cheap garden string) wrapped around a few times with a sprig of holly/ pine tucked in.

If you don't like the appearance of plain brown paper, every year Oxfam do wrapping paper which is made from recycled paper and is also recyclable itself if that's makes sense. It's not cheap at £2-3 per roll but the money is going to charity and they do some lovely prints. I now also buy it in the sale each January and save til next year!

I really like juxtaposition of things - two opposites.

Brown simple wrapping paper and an overdone red ribbon.
Or the simple paper and a simple butchers string
Or, the simple paper and lots of drawings, painting by the kids.

You could use a wax seal to make it fancy

Love, love, love this look. Very vintage, victorian, scandi.
I have a stencil with small stars and sometimes use it to decorate kraft paper, white (water soluble acrylic paint) looks lovely on the brown.

We've used ink stamps and natural string before, turned out well.

MummaPI · 05/11/2018 17:59

I'm hoping to do this too, was thinking of a photo of the recipient as a big (ish) tag
