Most of those kits are a bit of a waste of money tbh. Most of the ingredients you can just buy in a shop and do the experiments yourself. Do you know what kind of science the kid is into. There are plenty of robot builds available for all ranges which could possibly be better. There are solar system builds, lava lamps, rollercoaster etc. Stuff that he/she can proudly display once complete.

I have bought him building set before and he was not interested. It is more the explosive, mess elements that I thought he would be interested in.

Try places like Home Bargains, The Works etc for science sets. They are always much cheaper than Smyths!

Look at Learning Resources. We have Beaker Creatures chemistry set and just buy the reactor pods off Amazon or eBay.
