Hello!
We are having a sort of open house on Xmas eve for some neighbours and friends
I need some ideas about what I can lay out which can be absolutely served cold. Anything I haven’t thought of other than:
Prawn cocktail
Dips
Cold meat joint / salmon
Sausage roll
Pork pie
Quiche
Pizza? Not Xmas enough?
I need More veggie stuff I think.
Salads?

How about something sweet? Like mince pies, gingerbread men or chocolates.

Mini mushroom pies (puff pastry squares, with mushrooms and peas sautéed with salt pepper and nutritional yeast, bake 15-20 mins) serve hot or cold.

Finger sandwiches
Fruit kebabs
Cheese and onion rolls (like sausage rolls not bread rolls)
Rice or cous cous salad

I would do a cheese board with some nice crackers or bread and chutney, maybe some grapes as well. Perhaps some continental meats (salami, prosciutto etc) alongside your cold meat joint? Some smoked salmon or mackerel would be nice if you can stretch to it, and perhaps a pate?

For salads I would do 3, one green salad, one tomato or Greek salad (with olives, red onion, cucumber and feta) and one grain based, so a couscous or bulgar wheat or quinoa thing. Perhaps also some crudités to go with your dips - include some hummus as a dip as this is a good veggie option.

Scotch pie , cheese and crackers , cheese and pickle

Mmmm yes I'm all for the cheeseboard. I've recently had some lovely cheeses which would be ideal! Wensleydale with cranberry, caramelised onion cheddar and a spicy Mexican one! I always have some Boursin thrown in there too. Serve with crackers, grapes and a few chutneys

Hummus with carrots, peppers, breadsticks etc

Salami/Pepperoni slices

I usually go to Morrisons cold deli counter, they have all sorts there!

Well you will need a cheese and pineapple hedgehog for a start!

Buy frozen mini samosas, spring rolls and pakoras from Iceland or Tesco.Cook in oven in advance and serve.
Still delicious when cold 😋

Just to put in a polite request to serve meat and veggie products on separate plates/whatever with separate serving equipment. It's embarrassing trying to find excuses for not eating when you see someone's made a real effort but it's all been mixed in.

KTD27 · 02/11/2018 13:37

THANKYOU these are brilliant ideas!!
And yes yes to different plates and equipment thank you I hadn’t thought in honesty but that’s an important point
Cheers everyone I can go make more lists now Smile

Pizza can be chrismassy. Top with turkey, sausage, cranberries and stuffing balls.

Delish!! Oh I’m excited now
