I’m so confused by it all.
I’m probably going to wait for Black Friday deals whatever I decide.

So nearly 6 year old, only experience is fire tablet which he would play all day if I let him. Sometimes he won’t touch it for a week. But when he does play it he won’t put it down. Loves the HP Lego games.

Older teenager (13), never shown an ounce of interest in computer games but is now asking for a PS4. I think purely because of the fortnite hype at school. I don’t think think she genuinely wants one. Maybe she would get into it, I have no idea.

Youngest has asked for a switch mainly due to tv advertising. I’ve told him a ds might be more suitable (budget wise)

Now the switch looks good. Youngest would probably love it. Probably wouldn’t trust him to use it as a handheld due to the value of it.
I’d also like to play it with him on the tv which is better than being absorbed in a handheld device.

Now here’s my problem. Do I get a ps4, as a joint present. Oldest might play it, youngest would like it but not as much as the switch due to the available games for his age. But overall the PS4 is more budget friendly.
Or do I get a switch, mainly for my youngest, even though it’s pushing my budget.

Or just buy the youngest a ds xl (currently has sisters old 3ds but no appropriate games)

I should of added I’m also apprehensive about getting the youngest into consoles so young. I swore I’d never have a PS4 or Xbox in my house until I absolutely couldn’t put it off any longer. The switch seems more family friendly. But money is an issue.

We have a PS4 and we all use it - I stream iPlayer and Netflix through it mostly, the girls have various fantasy games (dragon age and Skyrim are favourites) and dh likes all kinds, fifa, gta, zombie type things - getting red dead redemption as soon as his grant proposal is done. The one game no one likes is fortnite! We have family games on it too playing up to 6 players, quiz games, mysteries, golf. Little big planet is kid friendly too.

Only Nintendo we have is a wii, that was a good machine and cheap (even then)

As someone who has both a ps4 (mine and husbands) and a switch (13 year old dd) with 5 children ranging from 4 to 13 i would say the switch for sure. You can get fortnite on it if thats a factor.

Ps4 hardly gets played by the kids but someone always wants to go on the switch. I think you could do the switch as a joint present if your budget allows. Also worth checking ebay and local facebook selling pages for them.

I am clear about no Fortnite for DS
We have a PS4 abx if I had my way Santa would be bringing a VR set and Dreams game for it
But DS 10 is desperate for a Switch and the more I see and read the more I like it

I don’t even know what fortnite is to be honest, apart from the dance moves that come from it 😂

I think the switch sounds good, but don’t know if my 13 year old dd will be interested.

Does anyone have the ds xl?

I think between the kids and DH we've ended up with most of the DS range. I'd happily recomnend any of them. Lots of decent games around and as it's been out for a while now there are plenty of second hand options within pocket money budget.

So far while the kids have both seen the switch and played on other peoples they aren't bothered about owning one, due to the price of the games.

DD is 14 and she and her friends often head round to each others houses for Mario Kart tournaments so there are certainly plenty of teens enjoying them here.

Imustbemad00 · 02/11/2018 18:11

I hadn’t even thought about the price of games. That’s a huge factor too. Maybe I should just get the ds xl. Console can wait another year I suppose. I do like the sound of the switch though.

We have done consoles, from wii to x box 360 to the x box 1 and ps 4. And now a custom built pc gaming computer. It never ends when you go down that path, just to warn you OP!
