Cinnamon tree decorations

I want to make some cinnamon dough Christmas tree decorations with DD this year but all of the recipes I’ve seen use applesauce. I know that’s something different in America to what it is here - what can I use to substitute?

Or does anyone have any alternative recipes?

I’m looking at this fountainavenuekitchen.com/3-ingredient-cinnamon-ornaments/ sort of thing

I know that’s something different in America to what it is hereShock I didn’t know that!! I just used a jar of apple sauce, blended to smooth out the lumps and a ton of cinnamons and some glue. They worked fine and have lasted 7 years now.

What’s applesauce in the US then? How is it different?

It’s completely smooth in the US. More like an apple purée. I wasn’t sure if I could recreate the texture with something else - oil maybe??

I used a recipe of Pinterest I just used cheap apple sauce from Asda they came out really well

Just use the apple purées that you can buy for babies.

Oh, I did not know that. Why not just do salt dough ornaments? And add cinnamon if you want the scent? (Does actual cinnamon smell enough anyway? - you could use oils?)

The recipe seems to have a huge amount of cinnamon. It’s the only solid!

Hadn’t thought of Apple purée. Was worried about using something that would go off 🤢
