Presents for newborn

Hi, I'm 36 weeks pregnant, with a DS who's 4.

My brain is unsurprisingly a bit addled right now, and I realised at about 4amthis morning (during some contractions) that Father Christmas is going to need to leave the 4-5 week old some presents lest questions are raised by 4yo.

What on earth do we get?! We do a stocking from FC and a couple of tree presents. Big present is from us, others from family.

Thanks in advance!

I'm in same situation. Thinking a few boring essentials ("nappies! Yay! How lucky the baby is, they love nappies!"), and was thinking of something that the older could use til the younger is big enough. Currently wondering about the grimms rainbow. Seems to be good from v young to pretty old (by which i mean I'd love it too...!) Expensive though. Label it for the baby but leave it out for the older one to enjoy I think. Thinking I might ask family to pitch in together for it if they ask for suggestions. The baby really needs nothing!

DandyScandi · 27/10/2018 11:38

Oh, sorry, just realised you were asking for FC ideas. Grimms rainbow definitely a big gift, not a small FC gift!

Some teething toys? Or a nice comforter thing, the teddies with the soft cloth attached?

FieryGhoulie · 27/10/2018 11:52

Rattles, soap, my first Christmas photo frame, next sized clothing - basically anything you will need to buy yourself anyway, wrap it up. Even if it's baby grows and vests.

Stompythedinosaur · 27/10/2018 14:10

We always made sure the baby had something that dd1 would want to have a go with, to compensate for dd2 often wanting her things.

scrivette · 27/10/2018 14:15

Teething toy, wipes, vests, socks, book for baby is older.
I had the same last year and just wrapped up practical things!

hidinginthenightgarden · 27/10/2018 21:36

Our DS was 2 months at xmas so we got stuff we would need when he was about 6 months as it would be a while before birthday came again. Toys that are aimed at 6months plus and a few outfits. Maybe a jumperoo or bouncy chair?

Something like this would be lovely www.daisydaisydirect.co.uk/mobiles-art-cards/djeco-wooden-mobile-baby-animals-dd04388.html

Or

If you need more than one item maybe a babygro or Christmas decoration with an explanation to older dc that FC knows babies are too little to understand Christmas and would get overwhelmed with lots of stuff.

HenryInTheTunnel · 27/10/2018 23:27

Some sort of baby gym or playmat. My DS loved his and I loved being able to put him down once he got used to it! I got quite a flash Fisher Price one for £50 but we definitely got our money's worth out of it.

bakebakebake · 27/10/2018 23:48

Sophie Giraffe!!

You'll need it soon any way!

SleepingStandingUp · 27/10/2018 23:51

One of those soft rattles with born in 2018 on? Clothes? A lovely woolen blanket? A cuddly Teddy?

Also to add to your drama, are you getting the kids something off each other?

stridesy · 28/10/2018 08:09

My dd was 2 weeks we did a stocking with a plate, bath book, wet wipes, vests, socks, park book, Sophie giraffe.main present was a bumbo.

Crochetcrochetcrochet · 28/10/2018 16:33

Thank you so much everyone, some great ideas.

Especially SleepingstandingUp because that hadn't occurred to me either!

I thought I would preempt your 4 Yr old at bedtime on Xmas eve asking what they'd got the baby haha.
Maybe a cute cuddly each?

DelurkingAJ · 28/10/2018 21:49

My DM does stockings and got DSs weaning stuff and sippy cups and other such essentials. Was fab and saved us having to get them. A babygro or two, some baby Xmas socks, a board book, stacking plastic cups, teething rings and a bath toy worked well too.
