Ds has just started high school really has no idea what he wants .

What are your 11 year olds asking for or are you buying?

Mine has a x box 360 . He had it a couple of years ago re con as I knew he would want an upgrade. I expected him to be horrific but actually he isn’t bad . I have avoided x box live though as think that would be worse.

My son is 11, I have got him:
Titanic Lego type set
Revell Lancaster Bomber modelling kit
Revell Spitfire modelling kit
Haynes Build your own Jet Engine set
Artist pens and pencils sets
Sharpies pen set
Funko Pop Jurassic World figures

@BeaLola My DS has a PS4. He rarely plays on it on a school day as he is out of the house by 7:30 and there isn't any time after school between clubs, homework and dinner.

Weekend mornings are his gaming time. He can play until 11. This means 2-3 hours per day and he is mostly happy to put it away and get on with family stuff and other activities in the afternoon. His console is connected to the family TV so if there is something else that people want to watch then it takes priority and he gets his gaming time later.

He plays Fortnite, Overwatch, FIFA and Rocket League. If he is online with his headset on it is only to recognised friends either from his senior school or his old primary school. He can play online with non friends but no messages or headset and only when I'm in the room. I may be a bit overprotective I suppose but he is happy to follow these rules. I just crochet while he games.

I found this helpful blog on Pinterest - amazing inexpensive gifts for teens boys the pin was called. Here is the link to blog brainpowerboy.com/unplugged-gifts-for-teen-boys/ but it wouldn't link properly so type it in or search on Pinterest for that title.
Anyway it actually had really cool ideas I hadn't seen before, it is American so in dollars but I just searched for things I liked in Amazon. I liked the board games ideas - dragonwood and forbidden island.
The ideas are all stuff that isn't electronic. Hope that helps someone

Starlight345 · 28/10/2018 16:15

Thank you for that link. I have put a couple of games on wish list I think he would like.

I also bought a 3D projection thing off eBay today it was only a couple of pounds so nice stocking filler .

You have all been such a great help he will have gifts after all

I second junior driving lessons. These have been a huge hit for DS(13)

Juanbablo · 30/10/2018 05:48

Ds1 just turned 11 and got a phone for his birthday and a PS4 last Christmas. He has been asking for a basketball hoop for ages and a longboard so I think we will get him one of those. We aren't doing super expensive presents this year.

Starlight345 · 10/11/2018 21:24

Usually buy a dvd too ? Anything new coming out ?

I've bought DS Marvel Infinity Wars and Ready Player One. He's seen both at the cinema already but enjoyed them.

catchingzzzeds · 10/11/2018 21:45

BeaLola, I think you need to be strict from the outset. Set times, only in the lounge, homework first etc. If you don’t allow any gaming it could make life difficult for him socially as he gets older.

Mich0027 · 10/11/2018 21:55

My son is 11 and I'm struggling. Definitely recommend young driver voucher mine loves that. I've got him a marshmallow toasting kit and marshmallows but mainly because he likes setting things on fire Hmm
Some good ideas on the thread I'm adding blue tooth headphones to the list!

Leemeister · 11/11/2018 01:23

I have played spiderman and think it's fine for 12+ if anyone needs gift ideas

mamaduckbone · 11/11/2018 08:12

Mine is 13 and also has a birthday this month. I’m a bit stumped this year too.
He’s having trainers for his birthday and mainly money from other family members.
For Christmas he wants COD but the jury’s out on that. I need to do more research into the turning off gore and swearing option because I’m very anti and dh thinks it’s fine.

Young driver lesson is a great idea.

Watching with interest...

mamaduckbone · 11/11/2018 08:14

And yes, I would agree with PP that consoles are ok in moderation but you have to be prepared for the ‘my friends are all allowed to play for 6 hours a day’ argument and stick to your guns.

FrangipaniBlue · 11/11/2018 08:49

DS turns 11 2 weeks after Christmas, he's getting (not just from us, from family too):

2 footie shirts
Tracksuit of same team
Under Armour Tracksuit
Fortnite Monopoly
Fortnite Xmas Jumper
Fitness Tracker Watch
New Diary of a Wimpy Kid book
MX Boots
Pushbike
JD Sports & DW Sports vouchers
Guinness World Records Book

3luckystars · 11/11/2018 09:23

Thanks so much for this thread.

My son is almost 11 and I'm getting loads of ideas here.
I have gotten some books this week and will get some nice pyjamas. I got a circuit building game thing which I hope he will like, it's called snap circuits but I don't even understand half these things you are all talking about so I'm sure he would love them all !!

Thanks again.

Starlight345 · 11/11/2018 18:20

I have ordered a bungee chair and ready player one Dvd . Thank you for that suggestion

Some great ideas on here! My dd2 is 12 but likes 'boy' stuff. She is getting a reconditioned gaming pc as her main gift, some gifts from us and family are:

Zelda t-shirt
Set of proper weight juggling balls
Rubik's cube t-shirt
My Hero Academia (anime) pop vinyl
Voucher for trampoline park

She would love a young driver lesson so I might suggest that to Granny Wink.

3luckystars · 21/11/2018 14:06

I want a fudge hamper! @Monr0e Thank you for that!

SilkenTofu · 21/11/2018 14:30

Apple homepod
Books
Chocolate
Some art stuff and stationery
Lush bath bombs
Board games x 2 to share with sibling
Headphone stand

SilkenTofu · 21/11/2018 14:45

Sagely
What kind of green screen did you buy your DC? Mine is really into animation and would love this. We have a small one from Stikbots.

mrsdaz · 21/11/2018 17:23

Fitbit watch (cheap version £20 on amazon)
Goalie gloves with proper reinforcement in fingers.
Nerf laser quest guns
Pokemon cards, colouring book

Creakers book
Pokemon blanket and onesie
Echo dot and WiFi plugs for his room to turn his lamp and radio on.
Rubik’s cube.
Top trumps football quiz.

thesockgap · 21/11/2018 21:54

macnab · 21/11/2018 22:21

Our DS is almost 11. He's mad into BeyBlades so he's asked for a few of those and a launcher. He's also asked for a mini camcorder and a tripod. And a gaming headset for his PS4 - he recently found out about Santa so his Xmas list was made up of very detailed amazon descriptions so that I'd get the right things Grin

He's also getting stikbots, snap circuits, an activity watch and some books.

We've always had very strict rules around "technology" - no PS, iPad, Nintendo etc during the week. At weekends we haven't actually had to set a time limit as he'd often be out playing so wouldn't really be on it fir that long anyway. He's not allowed play online either, though this is something we'll probably allow next year. It's hard but you have to put your own rules in place and then stick to them.
