Ideas for 19yo dd?

I'm a bit stumped this year. She's asked for some tea and also made noises about a laptop but for assorted reasons I won't be doing the laptop.

The tea definitely!

Any other ideas? I don't do cash. Her birthday is also on 27th so I have two lots of presents to get.

My mum would always get me nice benefit make up sets that they bring out at Christmas. Comfy jammies. Books. Hair stuff. Boots/shoes. I asked for a board game last year, they’re definitely becoming a thing again with weird obscure games like settlers of Catan and such.

I’m 25 so a few years older than you me DD but my sister is 21.

What type of things does your DD like?

mama1DC · 25/10/2018 08:26

Make-up? New bag? Clothes/shoes?

RJnomore1 · 25/10/2018 08:43

She's got a ridiculous amount quite a lot of makeup. As in bags and bags, I was 😮 When she came home from uni in the summer.

Clothes I could buy basics like jumpers etc but she won't deign to take any time to tell me what she might like so anything nicer or more adventurous would be a stab in the dark. Boots might be an idea though although her gran usually buys a pair for her every year for Xmas.

Comfy Jamie's I will definitely do. I've got some things like nice candles, some makeup minis and stationery bits for her stocking, a Harry Potter cushion for her room.

She mostly likes going out drinking ATM (which is fine, but the main reason I'm not doing cash - she's burning through money at a ridiculous rate of knots on nights out, taxis and takeaways.)

I don't think jewellery this year, she got a nice ring and a very good watch for her 18th. I'm really struggling - a clue from her would help. It's worse because I've got loads of ideas for her 14yo sister.

Things on the list for my girls include Neutrogena light therapy mask, large envelope style clutch bag, really nice reusable water bottles, no vpl pants, extra large make up/wash bag for when she's getting ready at friends.

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/10/2018 09:11

DD2 is the same age and also has a takeaway and taxis habit.

So far she is getting a personalised jar of Nutella. A new purse. A DVD set that she wanted before she started university. A bottle of perfume. Tickets to see her favourite comedian. A benefit makeup set and a mini naked palette. I've bought PJs and she mentioned novelty slippers that I might find in our local tiny Primark. A bottle of caramel syrup for her stocking.

She got a laptop for university and she is making "I need a new phone" noises but it seems to be working fine whenever I've looked at it.

RJnomore1 · 25/10/2018 09:23

Perfume. Added to list thank you.

Where are the Nutella jars from? Both my girls would love them.

Is she allowed candles at Uni..........? I have crossed them off DDs list for this year.....

RJnomore1 · 25/10/2018 09:40

She's in her own flat this year with friends so she's allowed them, she wasn't last year in halls.

Instead of candles, I have sent my 1st year uni DD pretty, coloured candle holders (asda does them very cheap) and the LED tea lights, which look just as attractive (although don't smell so nice). And lots of fairy lights (battery operated - Poundland have nice non-chrismassy ones in the Christmas section. For a pound!), in fact anything to decorate rooms away from home is a good idea - bunting (got some lovely stuff made from recycled saris), cork board, interesting postcard sets. Knitted cactus(!) - so she can't kill it!

Without knowing your DDs tastes, hard to suggest, but my daughter loves Lucy and Yak dungarees/trousers. Lots of cred, if she has slightly boho style taste.

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/10/2018 09:54

I bought the labels from an eBay seller for £2.65 each and then just bought the jars in the supermarket. I haven't used the labels yet but I think they are self adhesive and look fairly simple to apply.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/10/2018 09:58

scented diffusers nice for Uni and safer than candles.

Make up mirror?

Gift card for restaurants she will go to at Uni (is that the same as cash?)

janinlondon · 25/10/2018 10:16

Ah hadn'[t clocked that she was second year! Diffusers great idea. One of DD's favourite birthday presents this year was a gift card for Patisserie Valerie - she worked out that she could buy herself one luxury raspberry tart a week for the term. She sends her gran photos of her eating them...(?!)

RJnomore1 · 25/10/2018 13:17

Restaurant gift cards are a great idea.

Also a light up makeup mirror! Genius
