Beauty gifts

For those beauty lovers, what’s a good gift to get someone who loves make up and beauty?

I have a friend / colleague in mind who is very “into make up”. She is up on the latest stuff, buys high end brands. I am too but she’s slightlh different style to me. I love mineral make up and eye shadow palettes. She wears liquid foundation, winged liquid eyeliner, lined lips (where you make lips bigger by lining around actual lips) and highlighter to work. She is a lot younger than me to be fair. She is 21.

My idea was the laura geller dripping in golf highlighter palette. She likes highlighter, it’s nice gold colours which would suit her warm complexion and I don’t think she has used much / any Laura Geller.

Otherwise I thought an hourglass blusher, but not sure what colour, and feel that would be a bit of a fail if I got the wrong colour...

Dripping in gold

Good value too as I think one laura geller highlighter is about £20

I have already bought a Mario Badescu facial mist for her and a space mask eye mask

Mac voucher

AliceRR · 25/10/2018 16:04

I like watts up too.

I’m not sure she’s as into eye shadows but I am. I’m tempted to get a Morphe for myself! 😂

I also happened to walk through Harvey Nichols today and they had Marc Jacobs cosmetics. I was tempted by that but not sure what I’d get her.

Mac voucher is a good idea. I think maybe you can buy the make up tutorial / makeover appointments and then redeem the cost against products 🤔

Voucher. I'd hate anyone else choosing make up for me because they always get it wrong.

brodiee · 26/10/2018 09:12

You can also order Chanel make up online and it comes in lovely gift packaging and u get a couple free samples too. Can't go wrong with their mascara or a nice red lippy

AliceRR · 26/10/2018 10:35

@brodiee That’s a good call too. Everyone loveable Chanel!

Got an email about a Nars mascara today as well and thought, on the one hand, everyone uses mascara. On the other, bit boring?

Wow! Can you be my friend/colleague please? I'd love that! x

KC225 · 26/10/2018 10:47

If she is young, what about the Fenty - the Rhianna range.

AliceRR · 26/10/2018 10:58

She is young - 22! She actually bought me a fenty gift set for my birthday, which was quite generous since that’s as March and she had only joined us on Jan! It was the one with the mini lip gloss and highlighter.

She does like fenty but I think she has a lot of it so wouldn’t know what to get unless they have something nice for Christmas that is new / limited edition

OP posts:
AliceRR · 26/10/2018 10:59

@Cutesbabasmummy sure, why not 🙂 x

First thing I'd check is does she want Cruelty Free?

Laura Geller is.
Mario Badescu is .

Mac and Benefit isn't.
My DD is 16yo, loves Too faced (Debenhams), Laura Mercier (JohnLewis) for her higher end and brands from Superdrug (loads of CF) for day-to-day .

What about brushes?

AliceRR · 26/10/2018 19:18

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

I don’t think she is fussed about cruelty free as she does by MAC etc but I want to buy cruelty free for myself so suppose I should for her too

I bought Tarte make up brushes (the mermaid ones) and a Tarte mermaid eyelash curler and mascara for her for her birthday in July so brushed are out really

Reason I thought Laura Geller is I quite like her stuff, don’t think my friend has used it so would be completely new to her, and the highlighters are nice and I think she’d use them...

What about a Kylie lip kit. You can pay through Amazon pay on her site, you need to factor in the customs charge but they are really nice and sounds like it'd fit her look. They are a bit special in that they are hard to get hold off here so she's unlikely to have it. Only buy off the official site though as there are fakes around.

I've got a couple and the quality is great. I also have a shadow kit from there (the kourt range) which is amazing.

You could wait for black friday as they always have a sale?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/10/2018 15:11

My DD is 16yo and wouldn't touch Laura Gellor (nothing against Ms Gellor she seems lovely on QVC) but she sees it as a 'older' person range.
My No1 favourite blusher is LG Roseberry

DD loves 'Tarte'

And there's 'Mally' (best mascara I ever used was a Mally one)

RJnomore1 · 27/10/2018 16:20

Kat Von d might be a good shout or urban decay?

I agree laura gelled is an older brand (very god though).

What about the new naked cherry palette or the Kat Von d holo highlighters palette?

AliceRR · 27/10/2018 18:39

@Almosttherr15 I didn’t know about those lip kits so just had a look. Yes I think she would like them actually.

Black Friday sales might not be a bad idea generally.

@70isalimitnotatarget Maybe LG is too old for her. Not exciting!

I like Tarte too but don’t want to get her Tarte again this year

I’ve never used any Mally stuff

RJnomore1 KatVonD probably would hebup her street

The cherry palette looks really good but I don’t think I want to buy eyeshadow for her unless it’s something really special. And for the price I’d be more inclined to get her a Marc Jacobs palette as they were £39

Would you give an advent calendar as a gift? I was thinking of getting her the M&S one bit obvs will be early. I did get her a couple of other beauty bits ( a Maria Badescu facial mist and face mask) so could wrap those for Xmas as well

Maybe that’s weird but I feel like the M&S calendar would be a good beauty gift

What about HUDA beauty? Someone recently posted on here about a gift set of lip glosses and they looked lovely!

AliceRR · 29/10/2018 10:32

HUDA is not a bad shout either. Need to have a look. I like to be able to see things in person which is why I overlook some branfs

Whats your budget? You could get a hamper if you know what products she like

For example, I got my best friend one and I got her Collection concealer, a nude nail polish, Benefit mascara, a cream blusher, a lip liner she always uses and a black eye shadow that she had been saying she wanted.

Previously I've bought her an ABH eye shadow palette, Kylie Lip Kit, Kat Von D liquid lipstick- which are amazing btw

AliceRR · 29/10/2018 16:51

Budget is £30-40 but realistically I have spent £10 already as I bought the Maria Badescu facial mist and a space mask so probably about £30 but I am flexible on that

The Huda demi matte lip colours are lovely. They are really nicely packaged too.

StealingYourWiFi · 29/10/2018 17:02

Also what about the mini Huda obsessions palettes? Would suit the budget perfectly and they are gorgeous. The smokey one is a winner.

Do you think the M&S advent calendar would appeal to a 21 year old?
