What would put in a baking hamper

Mil has recently started baking. So I was going to get a mixing bowl (a nice one) and put in it a book for her to record her own recipes, a Mary Berry baking book.
What else? She's got the basics scales whisks etc

Cookie cutters
Natural flavourings (Posh vanilla extract)
Piping bag and nozzles
Bowl scraper
Posh cupcake cases
Macaron baking sheet
Flavoured icing sugar

imsorryiasked · 23/10/2018 19:51

Decent tins and liners

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 23/10/2018 20:01

Food Thermometer (I see them use these on bake off all the time- when they are heating sugar etc)
Icing tools- looks like a scalpel to cut icing and tool for smoothing our icing
A cook book stand maybe

NoWordForFluffy · 23/10/2018 20:16

Some of these liners. We love using them as it saves the faff of lining!

KC225 · 23/10/2018 20:41

Measure spoons. A set of stainless steel.1/2 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon, tablespoon etc., on a metal ring. Invaluable.

Silicon scraper.

Small non stick rolling pin (Amazon)

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 23/10/2018 21:23

Recipe book stand?

CravingRaven · 23/10/2018 21:31

A nice apron. I use mine all the time when baking.

Knittedfairies · 23/10/2018 21:35

Some decent oven gloves.

SinkGirl · 23/10/2018 21:36

Get Mary Berry’s Baking Bible, it’s comprehensive and all the recipes work well.

A bottle of Wilton Cake Release (smear it on, no need to line pans - amazing stuff)

Taffeta · 23/10/2018 21:46

Yes to nice apron
Palette knife
Spatula

delilabell · 23/10/2018 21:52

Oh you're so fab thank you !! That's the Mary book I've got and I love. Was going to get it her. Live the idea of that spray.

Some disposable icing bags and some fancy Russian piping nozzle.

Leeds2 · 23/10/2018 21:54

A few year's ago, I got a personalised spatula from Not On The High Street saying, something like "Belonging to Leeds2" and with a picture of a woman. It was lovely, although I don't know if they still do them.
A bottle of every food colouring/tube of every icing colour/tub of every known sprinkle.
Would also recommend having a look on the Lakeland website.

Cooling rack
Definitely agree with different size / shape tins and measuring spoons.

What sort of baking does she do? Will she need lots of different icing colouring gels and fondant smoothers? But they'd only really be needed for elaborate birthday cakes etc. Or cookie cutters if she makes biscuits.

Sounds a great idea for a present by the way. I'd love it!

SinkGirl · 23/10/2018 22:54

Some good quality gel colours would be good - Sugarflair ones are great. Tins in different sizes are pricey so I wouldn’t do this unless you have a good budget as good quality ones cost a fair whack.

A silicon bowl scraper, mixing bowl, measuring spoons (Waitrose always do lovely ones), measuring cups, cake release and some gel colours with a book would be lovely.

If she wants to do more cake decorating, the Lindy Smith books are really great.

LeMesmer · 23/10/2018 23:24

Depending on her age a vintage cookbook , Mrs Beetons or BeRo? If she is in her 50s (like me) she will remember them and enjoy them.

Alanamackree · 24/10/2018 06:58

It depends on what she bakes.
Pastry:
a marble rolling pin
baking beans
General baking:
Flour sifter
Adjustable cake ring/tin
Good quality cookie sheets
Good quality vanilla
Steel cookie cutters
Decorating cakes:
Cake turn table
Set of fondant smoothers
Set of fondant tools
Cake leveler
Palette knife

NoWordForFluffy · 24/10/2018 08:21

You've just reminded me that I need some more reusable tray liners, Alana!

3secondsfromchaos · 24/10/2018 18:51

They sell lovely and ridiculously cheap baking things in Home Bargains!
