Not sure on machines but if they are a baileys fan then the baileys latte machiato is a must!

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 16/10/2018 20:00

Aren’t they an environmental disaster?

claret3189 · 16/10/2018 20:00

We have a Tassimo it's only little but it's fab we buy the pods 3 for 10 from aside. There is 16 coffees in each pack

haba · 16/10/2018 20:02

I wouldn't buy someone a Tassimo unless I was 100% sure they don't give a stuff about the environment- the pods can't really be recycled, and are an environmental disaster tbh.

Creatureofthenight · 16/10/2018 20:03

You can check if they’ve got a recycling facility nearby here

haba · 16/10/2018 20:04

Ha, cross-post.

If they like coffee, get them proper coffee and a stovetop maker or a cafetiere. (Unless you're loaded, and get a proper coffee maker)

haba · 16/10/2018 20:06

It's far better not to use the pods in the first place. And 100 centres for the whole of the UK?

lovetherisingsun · 16/10/2018 20:11

There's often sales on the machines - we've had a couple of Boschs, some models are cheaper than others. The gift recipient can recycle the pods at addresses listed here - www.terracycle.co.uk/en-GB/brigades/the-tassimo-lor-brigade-r

lovetherisingsun · 16/10/2018 20:11

Sorry Creature, xpost

Didiusfalco · 16/10/2018 20:13

I love coffee and love my cafetière. Would not want a tassimo. Bodum do some lovely metal ones including a copper finish which is really nice.

Mayhemmumma · 16/10/2018 20:14

You can recycle the pods at my local sainsburys, I think it's quite easy to recycle them now.

I love mine but me and DH drink a fair amount on a daily basis and 2 machines (cheapest version) have broken after a year each...So maybe go closer to £60 if you can.

Angelcd · 16/10/2018 20:15

Aww i never knew they couldnt be recycled that is a shame as i am into that ,we fill 2 big bins in 2wks.
Its for my dad & his gf he drinks coffee but she is more into hot choc, so any ideas on any other drink machines ?x

I’ve just looked at that recycling link. There’s one location for the whole of Birmingham for example (and it’s not in the centre) and nothing much north of Leeds - don’t think that would really be a winner for most people

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 16/10/2018 20:41

I think it’s ‘recycling’, very much in inverted commas. They’re made of a mixture of materials and also contain organismic matter from the coffee granules so they can’t really be recycled at all. There are definitely places that you can drop them off and they’re collected, I can’t imagine anything particularly helpful to the environment comes out of doing that though.

WhenIWasAYoungWarthog · 16/10/2018 20:42

Organismic? 😳 Organic

OhFlipMama · 16/10/2018 20:44

Honestly as a hot chocolate fan, the best is never from a machine. Proper hot chocolate pieces into hot milk is the only way.

Creatureofthenight · 16/10/2018 21:09

Indeed Didius. I gave my sister a hard time when she bought one. Just more needless plastic.

Angelcd · 16/10/2018 21:26

Thanks for everyones thoughts not buying one now ,we need to save the world from plastic .
Now back to thinking of new gifts x

What about an aeropress? And some gorgeous hot chocolate/mug for her?

SealSong · 16/10/2018 23:22

So encouraging to see people taking recycling seriously, nice going Smile

SealSong · 16/10/2018 23:27

How about a little hamper...an aeropress, some good ground coffee, an electric milk frother, some nice dark choc (for hot choc) and a small bottle of Monin syrup?

Angelcd · 17/10/2018 00:45

Thanks for the ideas a hamper idea sounds cute i saw baskets for hampers in the range.x
