Is anyone partaking in the Janet and Roy round robin this year?

I'm happy to send from Devon if anyone is interested.

Oh I've always wanted to do a Janet & Roy for the in-laws, they'd be the perfect recipients, especially mil who remembers everyone she's ever met. "You know Jean's daughter, Claire? You do, you do! Jean, you remember Jean? She was married to Graham's cousin who we met at that dog show in Newcastle in 1994" Sadly DH would never keep a straight face at a Janet & John letter though

Atalune · 24/09/2018 21:20

I want one!

Justmuddlingalong · 24/09/2018 21:22

I'll send one from the East Coast of Scotland if anyone wants to PM me the details they want included.

iloveredwine · 24/09/2018 21:57

I'm in Surrey if anyone wants one!

Hopskipjumping · 24/09/2018 22:02

I would love one for my dad. He speaks to everyone and anyone and pretty confident he could be convinced its genuine. Perhaps sent from Carlisle as he visits there a few times a year for a weekend. Could think of some amazing details to put in if someone agrees. Im in glasgow and happy to send one back although never done it before so may need some guidance.

CountFosco · 24/09/2018 22:25

Me! Would drive my Mum mad. Mind you MIL would probably claim to know J&R which would also have comic value. Hmmm, which to choose? I'm in NE England if anyone wants one.

bunintheoven88 · 24/09/2018 22:30

What's a Janet and Roy?

PawneeParksDept · 24/09/2018 22:49

Janet and Roy is a MN thing which goes back years to when a posters parent received a card from "Janet and Roy" and hadn't the foggiest who they were it caught on as a thing, it's to send people a card from a fake acquaintance and see how they respond

bunintheoven88 · 24/09/2018 23:07

@PawneeParksDept
What a fab idea Grin

Goldylover · 24/09/2018 23:27

I love them!

I found this one from 2014
Dear friends,

Another year has swept past and what a busy year it’s been! We have so much news to share with you all and we just hope that we will be able to share it with you in person next year.

Roy has been elected Chairman at the golf club. It’s been a long time coming but the wait has been worth it and, it must be said, he looks terribly swish in his club tie and Chairman’s lapel pin. The Arch Rival has been safely dispatched to sunny Florida so we can now finally put that saga behind us and look forward to an exciting golfing calendar next year.

Janet is as busy as ever at the WI. Her damson and blackberry was voted the best jam at the autumn fair, although her coconut and papaya sponge didn’t go down as well as we had hoped. She and Jennifer are as thick as thieves planning the children’s carol concert, to be held on the green this year as a change from the church. The annual standoff with the vicar is in full swing but from the plans, it promises to be a spectacular event.

Some of you will know that our little group has disbanded. We still meet for the odd dinner party but it was felt that going on as we had before would be in poor taste after the tragedy earlier this year. Colin’s presence is certainly missed and we’re doing all we can for his wife and Barbara, although it’s difficult of course. Our Saturday nights had become rather dull but we’ve been keeping ourselves busy, which brings us on to the next item…

The house has had a complete overhaul. Denise came from town to instruct the architect and interior designer on how to maximise the old place’s potential in strict accordance with the classical bagua of Feng Shui and the difference is astonishing. The orangery is our new yoga studio and we are thoroughly enjoying our sun salutations. We’ve taken out the downstairs bedroom and en-suite and converted the space into an extended dining room. As the children have flown the nest (yes, Thomas is gone!) Denise had free rein over all the rooms upstairs and we have four beautiful new guest bedrooms, which you are all invited to use as often as you can.

As mentioned, Thomas moved out in March and has set up a smart bachelor pad in Chelsea. He and the girls are doing very well but we won’t bore you too much with their news as they assure us they have everyone on LinkedIn and Twitter. No sign of grandchildren yet but our brood have always been career-minded so we don’t mind too much. They’re all coming for Christmas with assorted partners, which will be just like old times, except for Colin’s absence.

Speaking of which, we lost Horatio this summer. The garden was redone at the same time as the house so he was lovingly buried under a new pebble walk. We cross it barefooted every morning to boost the circulation and it’s lovely to have that time to think of him. He’s been sadly missed this autumn, silly old puss. He used to chase the leaves and bring them to us as presents, which we much preferred to the mice Frances insists on dragging into the kitchen.

We spent a week in Klosters in February as usual but unknowingly booked our chalet during half term so it was rather ruined by the hordes of screaming schoolchildren on the pistes. Words were had but nothing was to be done so we retreated to Scuol and spent a luxurious few days being pampered instead. Roy attended each of the majors with Timothy and in August Janet and Emma flew out to Shanghai to choose the finishing touches to the guest bedrooms and we now have ravishing lily themes in each. A proper holiday was certainly in order after the exhausting renovations and the shock we had both suffered after poor Colin so we decided to be a bit naughty and book a last-minute retreat at The Farm at San Benito in September. It was before the typhoon of course and utterly heavenly.

…Which brings our little note to a close. We hope you’ve enjoyed sharing our ups and downs and we look forward to reading all yours. As you know, we have plenty of space so please do come to see us in the new year.

Wishing you a very merry Christmas, with love,

Janet and Roy

MyNameIsKarenMyHairIsShiny · 26/09/2018 13:15

I'd send one from overseas if you want

SerenDippyEggs · 26/09/2018 13:37

I'm up for sending one from the East Midlands!

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 26/09/2018 13:42

Ah this is my favourite MN Christmas thread every year.

Goldy that is superb.

CaptainCorrigan · 26/09/2018 13:46

Also in Surrey happy to do one!

SneakyGremlins · 26/09/2018 13:47

I'm not entirely sure what I need to do but I'll do one from the north Grin

NewYoiker · 26/09/2018 16:44

It works best of you put 2/3 random things that makes the person receiving know that it's definitely for them. So my mum became a vicar this year and if I did one it could say 'Roy and I were so upset we couldn't make your ordination we do like a good day out! ' etc Grin

Alanamackree · 26/09/2018 17:13

Goldy that’s brilliant.

TokyoSushi · 26/09/2018 17:17

Love that one Goldy

PasteSandwiches · 26/09/2018 17:18

I'm in (I follow these threads every year and it's such a lovely, inoffensive practical joke). I'm at dab hand at the hyacinth lingo and I'm desperate to utilise a couple of "special" Christmas cards left over from last year that I can't re-use on ma famille

Pandamodium · 26/09/2018 17:23

Happy to send one from the north east. I'm up the dales in a place I can guarantee very few people will have heard of.

SneakyGremlins · 26/09/2018 17:26

Yeah, I'll do one if someone gives me a clue how to do it Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 26/09/2018 17:30

I have never done one but I would love to. I live in Scotland in a place very much linked to golf if that works for anyone? I would love to have one sent to my DM. It would drive her mad not being able to work out who it's from!

chocatoo · 26/09/2018 17:40

Goldylover that has made me laugh so much. Brilliant!

Jackreacherswife · 26/09/2018 17:40

Oooooooooo yes, I'm up for sending one to someone and getting one sent to my mother in law.

QueenOfIce · 26/09/2018 21:08

I had one sent to a couple who were due to get married the year after, I met up with said friend and she met me waving a card in my face incensed. "Read this! Who the fuck is this?! They're saying they're coming to our wedding! No one knows these people it's driving me mad WHO ARE THEY?"

I kept very quiet Grin
