Last year I got DS (13) a usb clock /fan, as the blades spin it shows the time, he really likes it, about 10 pounds from Amazon. This year looking at a Pac-Man ghost light for 14 pounds. Maybe a themed USB key , e.g., Stars Wars, depending on what he likes.

Not gadgets but perhaps a book? DS has a Star Wars map book, sound ridiculous but great for Star Wars fans. He also has a book of the greatest map mistakes which again sounds odd but he loves.

Depending on what your friend’s son likes there are loads of geek gifts 😊. Says a geek mother of a geek 😄

Hmm difficult one. What about a gift card for the Cinema. Costa or Starbucks so he can go out with friends?
