I made mincemeat!

My apples were ready for picking, so I made a load of mincemeat. Apples, sultanas, mixed peel, whole cherries, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, mixed spice, butter, a tiny bit of soft brown sugar, and brandy. All tucked away in jars on what is now the designated christmas shelf : )

I can't wait for Cake Day!

I tried once years ago (I did the Delia method where you melt it in a low oven and the fat - I used vegetable suet- melts as it slowly cooks )

I might try it again .

Does you whole house smell Christmassey now ?

Ooh yes I'll be making it soon - I use Delia's recipe too!
Christmas pudding at end October.

I made mine a couple of months' ago now. I still have some from last year in the cupboard too. I don't think I'll need to make any next year!

But you have to make it anyway, it's all part of the ritual : )

I'm going to put more of the apples to steep in vodka and brandy now; by christmas, with the addition of cream, cinnamon and nutmeg, it'll be apple pie cream liqueur to give as christmas presents. Hopefully. Or else a foul abomination never to be spoken about again. We'll see...
