Book advent calendar

Hotchocolate86 · 08/09/2018 10:06

Is anyone else doing this book advent calendar? I’m going to get some numbered stickers and wrap a book each day for the children to unwrap and read. After Christmas the books will get put away to be brought out again next year. Ideally as an advent calendar if it goes down well. Any suggestions for books? I’m looking for either Christmas or winter theme books.

Done this a few years running kids love it. Tend to get a few xmassy books which get put away but also just some normal books that they can then keep out throughout the year too. The works have 5 for £5 at the moment

Bookpeople are fantastic for books. Here’s a link to Mr Men festive collection, 10 books. £5.99

That’s 29 books for £25! Bargain🤗

There’s heaps more books, just search ‘Christmas’ on the search bar of Book People website.
I used to get them for my class at school as an end of year gift. They get delivered very quickly.

You’ve maybe inspired me to get a book advent calendar.....🤔🤔🤗

Hope this is helpful.

Not sure if those links were working, but you can find them on the website.

What a good idea! Love this!

Thanks for the replies. I particularly like the look of the Christmas bookcase on the book people website but I’ve only looked through the first couple of pages so far and there are lots of good ones on there.

We’ve got most of our Christmas collection from charity shops which can be a treasure trove for out-of-print and vintage books.

I’d suggest trying to vary the type of books - so some that are story based, some that are richly illustrated, pop up books, touch and feel, santa stories, religious ones etc

If you do Santa have a read through yourself first. It’s astonishing how many children’s books contain santa spoilers!

We’ve been doing it for a few years now. The first year I asked friends with older children for donations but if you’re in the uk you could always borrow from the library. I now have enough that I may do 2 this year one for the 5 year old and one for the 2 year old,
I can’t remember all the books but some favourites are the dinosaur that pooped Christmas, dear Father Christmas, jolly Christmas postman, stickman, Santa’s beard, Father Christmas on the naughty step, mogs Christmas, Alfie’s christmas, peppas Christmas, one snowy night, Lucy and Tom at Christmas and on Christmas Eve it’s akways the night before Christmas

We have a couple of touch and feel books, a jigsaw book, one with lots of Christmassy things in to find and a busy book as well as some longer story based ones. We have stick man so that’s going in as it’s quite a hit here and I’m looking at Father Christmas needs a wee. I’d quite like to get a pop up book. I need to get about 10 more so I’ll be trying charity shops first and then maybe buying second hand off eBay or something. I will be sure to check through for any hints that Santa may not be real.
