When to make a Christmas Cake?

I am thinking of attempting a Christmas Cake for the first time this year. Does anybody have any must try recipes? I’ve always thought you make them months in advance but not sure if I’m imagining this? So should I try and make one ASAP?

Any recipes, hints, tips and tricks appreciated

ahoydelboy it’s a really special time. We watch the live service on the iPad and it helps to talk about what’s happening and what has happened regarding the war etc while we mix the cake ( Mary Berry recipe) and we get to do the 2 min silence- have been doing this for the last 8 years and it has helped 3xDD’s understand a little 😊

I too love Nigella's Christmas book, I always have a peruse of it sometime in October with a hot chocolate and plan all the gorgeous Yuletide fare I will make....................

In reality I only make 2 or 3 things from the book but the reading ritual is wonderful.
