Ds14 ( will be by xmas ) has no idea what he wants for xmas...and i have no ideas either. To make matters harder its his birthday right before xmas too Hmm

He has the usual consoles etc, and has Asd with fairly restricted interests. He hates sports, isnt into designer clothing, doesnt mind reading...

So far i have on his list:

A bike ( he has mentioned wanting one but we live super rural so not sure how practical as i dont cycle Blush )

A driving experience

New guitar stand and strings

And thats it...its the smaller gifts im stuck on, despite not being a demanding kid his ASD and lack of understanding around money/ value means he will struggle with receiving a lot less than his easier to buy for siblings. So id like to have a few little things Smile

Have you asked him?

LittleYellowLifejacket · 22/08/2018 20:01

A phone case or wireless earphones
Or a voucher to buy games for his console

Little gadget-y novelty things and food always go down well at that age ime

Imnotacelebgetmeouttahere · 22/08/2018 20:14

Ive asked and he cant think of anything...all my other suggestions he isnt sold on (a watch, experience day etc)

Phone case is a good idea as is vouchers as theyll be useful whenever a game he does want is out!

My Ds will be 14 in October and he's getting a new TV for his room, then for Christmas he's getting a gamers chair along with the usual smellies, underwear, clothes and Xbox/PS4 top up cards 👍

leesmum · 22/08/2018 22:33

I did also look at the Echo Dot for him too

Ricekrispie22 · 23/08/2018 14:17

A subscription for one of the gaming magazines e.g. Games tm or Xbox official.
PlayStation icons light www.firebox.com/Playstation-Icons-Light/p8555
T-shirt from Illuminated Apparel

mummmy2017 · 23/08/2018 15:41

A wallet with a bank card in, he can have Contact less, and what ever less you spent in the account.

ChilliPowderMild · 23/08/2018 16:04

What about a bridge camera to use to take photos when he's off on a cycling jaunt. they aren't too expensive, some have really good zoom lenses, and it could be the start of a new hobby (which might end up getting very expensive...)
Also, don't forget the cycling helmet, gloves, clips for pedals, speedo.
(And down load map my run onto his phone so he can record how far he's cycling and see local routes that other people have posted.)

starkid · 23/08/2018 16:23

Smellies
Socks/Pants
Chocs/Sweets
Novelty USB stick e.g. something like this

Does he play acoustic or electric guitar? If electric - guitar pedals? New amp? Or if acoustic an electric guitar, my teen DC assures me that you can never have too many guitars.

wornoutboots · 23/08/2018 22:21

If he plays guitar look for a plectrum maker. New strap? My 14year old nephew requested "lots of sweets" for his birthday recently

Fstar · 24/08/2018 22:46

Does he have a smartphone, maybe some iphone earpods or some android compatable?

Audio books he can listen to perhaps at night? Redecoeating his bedroom with him picking accessories

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/08/2018 23:24

I have DS who will be 19 just before Christmas (and he never knows what he wants for either event ) he likes money and saves every penny he gets.

In the past-

huge 4g TV (this was 18th present combined)

chair for gaming

new XBox controller (he's asked for one this year)

he's had Young Driver lessons

Provisional for his 17th (he hasn't started driving but its handy for ID)

Loads of charger cables

He has money in a gift card

This year he's asked for a guitar and lessons
Might buy him a good beard trimmer (we got him a cheapie one to see if he liked it , if he was keeping his whiskers)

Clothes , nice underwear

It's such a tough age isn't it? I've got mine a giant space hopper so far!!

Imnotacelebgetmeouttahere · 27/08/2018 07:58

Thanks all! Some good ideas! We stupidly redid his bedroom about 2months ago which in hindsight i should of waited!

He has an acoustic guitar ...we do have an electric one in the house but he rarely touches it.

It has however led me to think i def buy stuff just because i dont want him to feel treated different from others..however i could easily just buy them less too! Grin

My ds has just got into skills toys at 13. So contact juggling balls, begleri, cardistry and stuff.

I had to look them all up too. But now I know what he's getting in his stocking at least!

Ginmakesitallok · 27/08/2018 08:05

If I manage to get tickets this week dd (who will be 15) will be getting gig tickets. Got her tickets last year too, went down a storm!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/08/2018 08:08

When ds2 was about that age we bought him a driving experience at Mercedes World in Surrey. He loved it. He got to drive a 4x4 round a course, threa was Also a museum and stuff for us to do whilst he was driving.

Methenyouplus4 · 27/08/2018 08:13

I always like to get my son (same age) some sort of 'toy' still, or things not just clothes/computer based.

In the past I have got things like:

  1. Mini retro arcade game that had about 250 retro games
  2. Penknife (also live rural)
  3. Table tennis set that attaches to normal table
  4. 'Grown up' Board games like Sushi Go, King of Tokyo
  5. Pop up 2 man tent (to sleep in garden)
  6. Daft sweet things like giant gummy bear or chilli jelly bean roulette.
  7. Voucher for cinema/Greggs (regional pastie shop!), Waterstones etc.
  8. Mini pool table
9 Mini football table 10. 3D printing pen 11. Sharpies 12. Posh aftershave (Zara very good but last year got Ralph Lauren as a treat) 13. Subscription (How Things Work is a brilliant one for that age) 14. A pet? Ours not had one recently but got a rabbit when younger but would he like a hamster, reptile? 15. Voucher for 2 for water park (so he can take a friend, can do similar for theme park, bowling, paint ball, lazer tag etc if you are happy to taxi) 16. Nicer versions of basics e.g. branded socks etc. 17. Dressing gown 18. One of those giant waterproof bean bags (about 30 quid), can use it in the garden too) 19. Basketball net for side of house (loads of use as he can do it alone) 20. Headphones (got Beats from Argos last year for 100 as his main present)

This year he is getting the Jacques table top curling game (from Amazon linked on the bargain thread)

Am sure there is more so will think and add to this.

JetJungle · 27/08/2018 08:25

I'm giving my DS (19) unlimited hair cuts for a yearly, at the extremely cool barbers in the high street. Costs = £180. I think it might be the best present I have ever come up with!
