Presents for DP

Planning ahead for Christmas, but I can't think of anything 'exciting' to give to DP! Trying to think outside of clothes and toiletries, but his hobby is tinkering with old cars so I can't help much there... Grin
What are people planning for their partners/husbands?

I'm getting Dp a pair of Dr Marten boots, comics, loads of vinyl records, aftershave, shaving soap, lego and lego minifigures, probably some comic related figures as well, chocs, socks, pants, t-shirts/shirts and books. I may have other ideas as i go along but his boots are his main present

adoggymama · 18/08/2018 01:25

@OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack is your dp a 15 year old boyGrin

adoggymama · 18/08/2018 01:26

I usually go for a nice wallet, few smart shirts or a watch. :) got my boyfriend an Armani watch for his birthday last month.

Ariela · 18/08/2018 01:52

Can you book him eg Trip to Brooklands Museum ?

Sneakily find out what elusive part he needs for his old car and find it? (I did this once, he needed a steering wheel centre, happened upon one randomly in a non-old car place, and got it re-chromed)

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 18/08/2018 05:13

adoggymama he is not but i can see what you might think so Grin we are both very geeky so i'll be getting similar from him Grin

Magmatic80 · 18/08/2018 05:53

EasyJet flights to somewhere in UK that he hasn’t been. He’s not local so I still have lots of choice! He doesn’t have hobbies so I find gifts for him tricky, if inspiration hasn’t hit a month out, then a weekend away it is!

AnyFarrahFowler · 18/08/2018 06:03

We’re just going to do stockings for each other on the actual day, so socks, little aftershave, he loves American chocolate and these TimTams we discovered in New Zealand so a selection of those, plus a keyring with photos of the kids on.
Our main present to each other is a night away in the amazing hotel we stayed in just after we got married - I can’t wait!

Not meaning to generalise, but men are way harder to buy for than women.

I get my husband a vistaprint desk calendar of special memories, places we've been throughout the year, every year. It's only small and doesn't look stupid on his desk at work.

A book on your DH's hobby might be a thought too.

Alanamackree · 18/08/2018 06:47

Someone last year suggested that men don’t want new things but new versions of their favorite old things. It revolutionized my gift buying for men.

That said, DH is beyond difficult, as am I in his opinion. So we’ve made a pact to go shopping together some evening in the run up to Christmas and pick out presents together. We did this last year and it was lovely to get a bit of time together amid all the rushing about, and time away from the dc which is rare, and we both had stuff we really wanted and liked on Christmas morning! Not for everyone but something that worked well for us.

champagnesupernouveaux · 18/08/2018 08:28

I've been completely stuck too, I am every year. Thank you to whoever mentioned Brooklands Museum - I'd not heard of it, and it looks like they do gift tickets, so he might like that.

I always try to start planning gifts at this time of year, which is a bad time to think about my DH as in the last two months we've had his birthday, Fathers Day and our wedding anniversary, so I've used up all my ideas! I usually do him a sort of hamper for Christmas with several little things - fancy beer, chocolate, he usually updates his Amazon wish list, so a couple of things from there.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 18/08/2018 09:16

DH wants a digital SLR. Stupidly expensive so will be asking for contributions from family so it’s a group present. He rarely asks for things so I figured I should go with it. Will do a stocking and a couple of other small, personalised bits too

Livinglavidal0ca · 18/08/2018 09:26

I’d like to get him the new Samsung watch. Don’t know if I can afford it though and seeing as we have joint money (other than our own spends) id have to save up for it Grin failing that I think a new wallet, probably ted baker as they wear really nicely.

SimplyPut · 19/08/2018 13:13

DH will be getting a handmade leather satchel. He has been lusting after one but would never treat himself.

MuddlingThroughLife · 19/08/2018 13:19

I always get dh pj's to open on Christmas eve.

Christmas day so far I'm thinking (the obligatory) socks and pants, a watch, aftershave and a voucher for a tattoo as he wants a tat in memory of our son.

MrsK · 19/08/2018 14:17

If you go to Brooklands, Mercedes Benz World is worth a visit. It’s quite impressive has lots of cars displayed charting their evolution also an F1 car. It’s free to enter, there is a hotel onsite if you want to make a weekend of it. Mclarens Paragon site is also close by, I’m not sure if you can visit though?

I’m devoid of inspiration so far, last Christmas I took DH for a weekend in Speyside visiting Whiskey distillery’s. He doesn’t need anymore golf bits, clothes, watches. So, no idea what I’m going to get him

Chrisinthemorning · 19/08/2018 14:23

Thinking I might get DH a kitchen aid (or cheaper equivalent). He likes baking and cooking.

DozyDoates · 19/08/2018 14:26

I had an email from Hotel Chocolat the other day about their new "Velvetiser" to make fancy hot chocolate at home - pricey but think it's ideal for my DH (who is so difficult to buy for). It's either that or a Dryrobe.
