Themes, anyone?

I used to just bung any old thing on my Christmas tree, but a few years ago we moved home and got a larger tree. This started my 'interest' in decorating the tree with a theme. Just wondered if it was me being mad or whether other people do this?
If so, what have you done?
My favourite so far has been "woodland" - loads of natural materials hung on the tree, with wooden ornaments, badgers, deer, squirrels and other similar, plus garlands that looked like red berries.

This year, I'm torn between Victorian (lots of lace and frippery) or Alice in Wonderland.

No themes on the tree , but all my glass baubles go on it.
Then the other areas have silver/glass or bronze/gold or some tradition decorations ( change round each year ) . I do stairs/the arch between the two rooms and the mantlepiece .

The Christmas Table has a theme though. Every year I buy something that catches my eyes then work round it. I've got different tablecovers and white plates so just add things Xmas Grin

I'd spend way too much if I started doing that! I do mostly the same each year, with just a few new things.

My theme is chucking on the same old tat !

My theme is cloth decorations! There's nothing breakable on my tree at all which is good!!! I've made a lot of them from kits too.

I do however love the Alive in Wonderland idea.

Personally I think places like Fortnum and Masons, Selfridges and Hamleys have some great examples of themed trees and they usually start doing their Christmas windows and departments around now so to get trade from the summer tourists!

Alice in wonderland sounds like a fabulous idea!
But no my tree isn't themed, it would be far too expensive to change the theme each year. I mostly have handmade or personalised decorations

I like the idea of cloth decorations.
I do try to make sure things can be reused, even if they fit a theme. So a pack of playing cards could be temporarily turned into hanging decorations on the AIW tree, along with my rabbit ones from the woodland theme. And I can pop some chess pieces into 'open' baubles (clear glass/plastic ones).

Wonder if I can theme the table, too.
