What’s your favourite Christmas quote / saying?

Mines:

‘Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more’

My favourite,

Christmas is, of course, the time to be home, in heart as well as body

christmasgeek · 08/08/2018 07:49

@GoJetterGirl that’s lovely , I’ve never heard that before - where is it from , do you know?

I’m not sure if it’s origin, all I can tell you is that it was written in a card sent to me when my son was in hospital following his thoracotomy to remove a cancerous tumour from his lung and it was looking like he may have had to stay in (he didn’t, we made it home before Christmas Eve) I wasn’t feeling too Christmassy, that card now lives in my Christmas planner.

@GoJetterGirl that’s lovely - it obviously came at a time that you really needed it! I think quotes like that will always stick with you.

@christmasgeek your quote is from 'Theodor Seuss Geisel, How the Grinch Stole Christmas'

StylishMummy · 10/08/2018 07:47

My favourite;
Norman Vincent Peale- Christmas waves a magic wand over the world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.

christmasgeek · 10/08/2018 18:23

@StylishMummy Thanks, although I did know that! Dr Seuss (a firm favourite in our home) !

I was wondering where the other posters quote had come from 😊

It’s not what’s under the tree, it’s who’s around it

christmasgeek · 13/08/2018 08:21

@Yutes it’s really interesting that when you ask people , people generally like quotes that are about Christmas being more than about the gifts, which is lovely! I love Christmas, massive Christmas geek (hence my Christmas board name this year!) , but the presents etc are just a small part of it for my family and I. It’s about the experiences we enjoy as a family, the time we spend together, the traditions we have that build even more memories etc!

Granted, we do also do some of these things that cost money , and doing things like Xmas box / Xmas eve box etc are yet more gifts and totally not needed, but it’s all about the memories for us, and spending time together!

I love Christmas quotes. I often use these as part of Christmas tags, especially if I feel like I haven’t given a lot. I think time is the best thing you can spend at Christmas.

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear! Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/08/2018 09:25

Mine’s not a quotation but the whole poem by T.S.Eliot, Journey of the Magi. I love the way it looks at the story of the birth of Christ from another perspective, and I love the fact that it isn’t saccharine-sweet.
