Magazine Subscription for DN

DN is 4. Instead of buying her chocolate, I have often bought her a magazine as a treat and for some quiet time. I'm thinking about paying for a subscription as her Christmas present. I think she'd enjoy receiving post and I know she likes magazines and the one I was thinking of has questions like why is the sky blue as well as all the usual fun stuff. Is it a rubbish idea? I would probably get something small for her to open too.

I think it's a lovely idea.

Lovely idea. Have to admit my two ignore the interesting educational magazine and wait impatiently for Beano every week. But maybe at 4 there's something a bit more in between the two!

Could you get the issue before the subscription starts and wrap that up for her so that it’s a more tangible gift?

Such a good idea, i may borrow it for our family this year. I love ongoing gifts, my DP has bought me a few different subscription boxes at different times, American sweets, a anti-stress one. I loved waiting for my delivery each month.

This is the first thread that I have started so I'm thrilled to have responses. I'm now wondering if I should buy an issue of the magazine beforehand to see if she likes it or just find a subscription to her usual magazine. Wrapping an issue is a great idea too, although I was planning on another small gift to open. I think that something to unwrap is more for me than her though, as I doubt she would notice if I didn't get her anything.

I think it's a fab idea!!! I'm sure you wouldn't do this, as there can't be 2 dickheads who think it's ok but, don't cancel it to get at her parents if you fall out with them afterwards😉

-not that we still haven't forgiven twat aunt for doing this when I was 5

Elliebobbins · 05/08/2018 12:03

That's awful Ruggerhug. I certainly wouldn't do that but I very much doubt we'd ever fall out (even if we all do annoy each sometimes).

Lovely idea. I love subscriptions as gifts. My first Christmas with DH I got him thr Jamie Oliver magazine, he was gutted when the magazine stopped!

What magazine would you get for a 4 year old?

We have had copies of okido when my dds were younger, otherwise there was an arty onethat they loved?

My 8yo gets Aquila, she loves it.

I am just thinking that this might be a very good idea for my dnephew, can anyone recommend a football magazine for a 7yo?

WhoKnowsWereTheTimeG0es · 10/08/2018 07:11

Match of the Day for football, we started it with DS at about age 8 and it's still a highlight of his week at 14.

We tried Aquila with DD around age 8 too, total failure, she never took to it at all.
