My house is a shit tip. Nothing in the right place because things have been moved to accommodate the tree which means they are in random places preventing me from putting away new presents and so on. I love xmas but I get twitchy this time every year and want my house back in order!
The tree is going away tomorrow along with all the cards, decorations and advent calenders. By lunchtime I intend for the only reminders to be the new gifts that are properly stored in the place of toys that never get played with.
Anyone else clearing xmas away?

When did you put your decorations up?

bigchris · 27/12/2017 21:16

I tend not to put too many decorations up .. I bought new plants today so I am looking forward to a fresh clean home soon. Though the house has been cleaned, the cards etc irritate me (though I am glad to get them all the same )

Klobuchar · 27/12/2017 21:30

I suppose it depends when you think the festive season is over. I’ve always considered it extends until New Year but then we don’t put the decos up until ten days or so before Christmas so aren’t as fed up of them by now

ParadiseLaundry · 27/12/2017 21:50

I know how you feel. The toy situation is just ridiculous, we can't even got to DS's wardrobe.

Although, controversially what made things easier this year was not actually putting any cards up at all Blush they all just got recycled straight away. Must admit I am not a card sender myself and don't really get it.

We'll be taking the decorations down before new year, but we always do.

Great idea getting new plants, littlelamb, sometimes even though you get sick of the clutter the house looks bare once you take the Christmas decorations down!

hashtagelfie · 27/12/2017 22:50

I completely get you! I LOVE Christmas and adore the run up to it, but it's over with now and I've started taking the decorations down. All that's left is cards, tree and outside lights (far too wet and cold today). Yes I start putting decorations up early but only bought the tree 11 days ago (we have a real one) so it's not like we've had them up too long and are sick of them, it's just Christmas is over, time to move forward into the new year.

I just want my house back now

ScrubbyGarden · 28/12/2017 01:13

Noooooooo we are only on day three of twelve! My true love hasn't even got as far as sending me fiiiiiive go-ooold rings!
Decs go up on the 24th here, and I spend the 1st to the 6th if Jan whining that Christmas is not over and it isn't 12th night yet. I hate everything being torn down so early (and going up so early). I'm out of step...

ButteredScone · 28/12/2017 01:17

No, too early for me. Christmas Eve is the start and 2 January the end of the festive period. I love it and feel like this is the best/laziest holiday time when all sorts of different rules about booze and chocolate and bedtime just don't apply.

sweetsomethings · 28/12/2017 02:51

Ahead of you already all down by lunchtime on Boxing Day

1DAD2KIDS · 28/12/2017 03:01

Your not the only house that lools like a bombs hit it. I have been so lazy with the housework. Opperation tidy up starts for me tomorrow too. Christmas is dead, long live normality. Hopefully I can sneak out some of the old toys the kids don't play with anymore to make space for the new.

MrsDilber · 28/12/2017 04:08

New Year's Day for me, blitz the house when all that crap goes back in the loft. It gets me down too.

Good thing is, winter will fly by and it'll be spring before you know it (trying hard to find a positive angle here).

Lofari · 28/12/2017 04:20

Mine came down yesterday. Christmas here was quite literally shit (2 kids and myself had a nasty tummy bug) so down it came. I was sick of the tree looking at me all smug.

hashtagelfie · 28/12/2017 09:10

I'm so jealous! I wanted to take mine down after the kids had gone to bed on Christmas Day Blush Boxing Day is ds3's birthday so then had the living room covered in balloons just to add to the clutter. We have loads to celebrate in winter (dd and ds2 are January birthdays, ds1 February birthday, plus our wedding anniversary is in February) so it flies by for us and when spring comes it feels we can just sit back and relax and not wrap another bloody thing for six months

bastardlyandmutley · 28/12/2017 12:09

I agree, the antsy feeling about mess has set in here too.

I love my tree still but just want to pack everything else away. I took the cards down today because they look untidy.

All my kitchen surfaces are covered in food & booze. I have my "special" plates, cutlery and wine glasses out because I can't easily keep putting them away and getting them out because of decorations. My bloody fridge is like a game of Jenga.

Blankiefan · 29/12/2017 22:24

I love Xmas but we had the tree up on the first weekend of December this year which was really early for us. We took it all down yesterday which was sad in a going-back-to-work-soon kind of way... then realised we still had best part of a week off. It's fabulous. Like having a super long break. It's really pleased me and will do this again next year - early up, get all the nice bits then early down and enjoy the rest of the break.

hidinginthenightgarden · 30/12/2017 06:35

I just came down stairs and was so pleased to see the house looking tidy! I took it all down yesterday morning and had a good tidy. I feel so much better now. I had intended to do it the day before but ended up building a marble run which took me 4 hours Grin
