My D.C. have been very lucky gift wise from friends and family and we seem to have an abundance of gifts larger than other years.

We don't have room for it all. Do you insist they get rid of some old stuff?

Part of me wants to siphon off some of dd's unopened bits to regift if she hasn't shown any interest by new year. Is that really wrong? Blush

We tend to clear out and donate any old toys that are no longer played with just before Christmas.

If you want to regift wait a bit longer to give her the chance to play with them, it can be a bit overwhelming and she might not want to play with everything all at once.

Donate old toys

Hold onto unopened toys & give them out st regular intervals through the year. So I'll give out the next batch at February half term & then easter.

I clear out older bits, send a few to grandparents houses for them and then if I know they won’t play with it I buy it off them and save them for friends birthdays etc

We have a clear out before Christmas and then anything DD (4) hasn't played with yet ive put away on her wardrobe to being out through the year, its mainly craft stuff and play doh I do that with though.
I only refit if it's a duplicate of something we've already got.

I think new year is a bit soon to be regifting personally as they do get overwhelmed at first and it can take a while to get round to stuff.

Sorry, really should have spell checked that Blush

Have a pre Christmas clear out, let them choose favourites then put some in the loft to rotate during the year. I'd never take any away or regift as they don't belong to me. Duplicates they donate to charity we support and I replace with something else.

I have just looked around the room and picked up about 8 toys that don't get played with. Almost all of it bought in the last 18 months and in great condition. It is going in the garage tomorrow, I will be doing a children and baby market around Easter time and will try to sell them along with anything from xmas that the kids haven't shown interest in. The money will go towards buying a summer wardrobe unless there is something else they really want or need.
New gifts replace old on the shelves and in toy boxes.

We have a pre Christmas clear out. It’s the only way!
3dc although the older 2 are beyond the big toy stage, they still end up with piles and piles of new things to store. A lot of it is art materials etc and they have specific space in their room for these things.
We do have a makeshift ‘playroom’ which is actually a spare bedroom without a bed in it, which is where all the Lego is kept, along with a lot of the bigger toys live too. It’s a big room, ds has the smallest room in the house so even though it has loads of toys in it, he doesn’t have loads of room to play in there. He is really into toys and playing, will sit for hours with little figures, making up battles etc, but luckily we do have enough space to store everything.
The pre Christmas clear out is essential to keep on top of everything though, and I tend to do one mid year aswell.
