Presents for Teachers

A few weeks ago everyone was asking what the best presents for teachers are and I try to remember great presents I've been given. Since I've now just been given them I thought I'd share what I've loved the most. (I hope that isn't cheeky -I think the children's behaviour this last week has been the best present of all and I am very grateful for anyone who took the time to buy and wrap a present for me.)

Homemade chocolate crispy marshmallow cakes with packaging designed by child which were presented to me just before break time.

A present which had been wrapped multiple times like a pass the parcel. I only wish she'd insisted I'd opened it at school for the amusement of the class.

I also loved the fact that I got 4 bottles of prosseco despite being very pregnant. The class have not been officially told yet (HT like to leave it until last minute) and no one can believe that they haven't guessed! I think they must just think I've put on a lot of weight!

Oh and if your children know their teacher has a toddler, don't give them candles! I think this year has been a bumper crop for candles so I will have some very lucky friends! Some of them are really quality ones too.

Perhaps other teachers would like to share their thoughts...

TA here and got some amazing gifts. Chocolate chocolate chocolate (with 3 DC this will not come in wrong) prosecco, a mug filled with hot choc and marshmallows, Cath kidston key ring (personal fave).

I teach secondary so I feel very fortunate indeed to receive any presents. Like all teachers there is no expectation or longing for presents, however, my students and their parents are typical human beings, some of them enjoy showing their appreciation for you with a gift! A lovely one this year was a personalised candle 'thank you for being the best teacher Miss Usually'. Really thoughtful and will be treasured but saying that, I actually treasure more a note written by the same student from 3 years ago, apologising for his behaviour and promising to try harder. It's very sweet at one point I thought I had lost it. When I came across it again I have to admit there may have been a few tears, I am a complete sad case, I know!
My best gift this year though is how well my form have handled the start of their GCSEs, I'm so ridiculously proud of them and just happy and hopeful about their futures

I'm secondary too. I don't usually receive any gifts but this year, a pupil gave me a canvas tote bag with a print they knew I'd like. I almost burst into tears! So, so kind.

I bought Costa vouchers for my child's teacher - I wrote instead "Go for a quiet coffee and cake on your own, you've earned it!"

My son's teachers had mountains of gifts and many of the were mugs. What do teachers do with all the mugs? 😂

I have loved receiving presents from my class... it is much the same as your own children bursting with excitement to give you something. ( i teach 8 year olds) One of my personal favourites is Christmas decorations. I have hung some gorgeous decorations on my tree I have been given over the last 20years and I still fondly remember who gave me each one. I’m not talking homemade, no offence but I don’t put my own children’s in too prominent a place! My top tip is buy some lovely tree ornaments in the jan sales from a garden centre or somewhere lovely and keep them for next year! That said, chocs and wine never go to waste in my house. My daughter once got a thank you note posted to our house from her teacher... I’d love to do the same but never manage it, that said it is always handwritten by the first day of term...

I got soooooo much booze, despite being 36 weeks pregnant!!

jazzmin · 23/12/2017 18:59

Mugs... I normally keep at school if they are novelty teacher ones! If only we were given teaspoons, what happens to them!?!

TheTroutofNoCraic · 23/12/2017 18:59

Mugs never leave school...they end up in the staff room!!

PinkAvocado · 23/12/2017 18:59

Cheesey- we never have chipped or faded mugs as they’re updated so regularly! Grin

My favourite Christmas gifts are tree decorations as I love an ecclectic Christmas tree!

Trialsmum · 23/12/2017 19:00

I’ve lost a lot of weight this year and tried really hard to look nice and this year I’ve received loads of bath sets rather than chocolate which I found interesting!

TheTroutofNoCraic · 23/12/2017 19:00

jazzmin there is never a teaspoon in the staffroom...I blame stealth breaktime yogurt eaters

leccybill · 23/12/2017 19:11

We've been using the one plastic spoon the entire term! Where do they go?!

TheBlueMeaniesAreComing · 24/12/2017 04:43

We got my Ds’s Teacher and teaching assistant Starbucks vouchers this year. We had my son’s Christmas show on Wednesday and his teaching assistant actually took us aside just to say thank you. Made me really happy 😃 I really struggle with gifts for teachers. So I know what end of year gifts will be this year 😂
