Is a big stuffed toy a suitable gift for a 3 year old boy, I've got one for 3yo dd, but seems different for a boy somehow?

My ds 3 got a huge Sully for his birthday and loved it! Nearly as big as him!!

PsychoPumpkin · 21/12/2017 10:03

Of course it’s fine! If you think he’ll enjoy it, why not?

My two year old son sleeps with a massive bear that belonged to his dad as a child, he adores the big, floppy waste of space!

Why is it different for boy, especially at age 3?

Whether the big stuffed toy is appropriate depends whether he is your son or somebody else's - and how big is big! Other parents might not be thrilled with something enormous!

My 6 year old boy still loves soft toys though and has probably 50. None huge though. Anything too big to carry seems to be for show rather than play.

The only thing on my 3 year old's christmas wish list is soft toys. He always sleeps cuddling one and with about 10 more next to him. My nephew was the same aged 3

This is a daft question. A soft toy is a suitable present for any 3 yr old that would appreciate it, girl or boy. Some will, some won’t. It depends on the child.

I guess because he doesn't have any that I've seen on play dates.

I got my 4 year old DS a soft toy for Christmas, he's got a couple of soft toys that he likes to tuck in at bed time although he has never played with them at any other time. they seem to be just for bedtime for him.

Intercom · 21/12/2017 10:07

Yes it's a great idea 🙂

Alicetherabbit · 21/12/2017 10:09

Thanks all I'm off to get it in lunch break Grin if he hates it am sure his mum will like it anyway!

My 6 yo DS still loves soft toys! I don’t know why you’d think boys wouldn’t.

Evelynismyspyname · 21/12/2017 10:12

If he doesn't have any he might not be into them though - I know one of my kids only cared about one teddy. That one lived in his bed and he still has it in his bed at age 10. However another soft toy would have been a rather neglected gift as he didn't love soft toys generally, just that one... He is soft toy monogamous :o Whereas his little brother has no particular loyalty to any one soft toy and they fall in and out of favour, any new one is always favourite for a week or so until he takes to an older one again, and he actively plays with several of them at once...

The boy you are buying for might have some soft toys, or one special one, in his bed, but he might prefer other toys if you've never seen a soft toy at his house... Although I guess its possible it hasn't occurred to his parents to buy him a soft toy it seems unlikely, assuming he has other toys!

I hate it when people give my son soft toys Sad they're dust catchers (I'm allergic) and most of them aren't even very nice. A lovely teddy bear is a bit different if it's a really nice one and not huge!

WhatwouldRuthdo · 21/12/2017 10:13

My just turned 4 year old has asked Father Christmas for a teddy bear. I think it’s a fine gift.

Alicetherabbit · 21/12/2017 10:30

If he doesn't like it I know his mum well enough to tell her to regift it and get him something else.

There are some cute stuffed dragons, dinosaurs, puppies, monkeys ect. perfect for 3 year olds to grow up with.

My 7yo boy still loves soft toys - why not? He will be getting a new one for Christmas and I know he would be disappointed if he didn’t.
